1 or 2 loaves of whole wheat bread, 1 3-bag bag of 1% milk, a dozen jumbo eggs.
A package each of baby carrots, packed salad and frozen berries.
A 1-3kg bag of potatoes, a stalk of celery, a basket of cherry tomatoes, green peppers.
About a dozen frozen juices, a pack of juice crystals (for fiance... he likes the sugary stuff), frozen peas and corn, a bag of mccain french fries.
A box of cheerios, rice krispies or special K, a box of granola.
A tub of vanilla yogurt, olive oil becel, low-fat sour cream, a small carton of 10% cream (for tea when I have guests over).
Whole wheat linguini and macaroni, a couple cans of sauce, about 2-5 cans of campbells soups, a couple cans of tuna in water.
1 package of extra lean ground beef, 2-3 packages of extra lean ground chicken/pork/turkey, a package of pork chops, a roast or two, a whole chicken or just legs.
A lemon or raspberry tea cake for my guests, supplies for whatever baking i plan to do that week, a case of diet cranberry raspberry pop, a brita filter, and a pack of gum! :)
I shop every two-four weeks - more often when my mom is staying with me because she is home all day and needs to eat...but if its just me:
- 1 bag of salad mix
- two or three kinds of fruit, based on what looks good or is on sale
- same for vegetables-I always need potatoes, onions, and carrots in the house but they last a while
- 2 cans of tuna fish
- at least 2 cans of canned fruit-I like peaches, pears, mandarin oranges, pineapple
- a couple cans of canned vegetables-I buy corn, beans, peas canned
- some kind of frozen vegetables-I like the kind where you get pasta and veggies
- beef or chicken broth if I plan to make soup
- 20 cartons of yogurt(I buy the Dannon 60 calorie kind)
- A quart carton of OJ
- Cheese of some sort
- Some kind of meat, whatever's on sale/I need-but I will buy 12 chicken breasts or five pounds of hamburg and freeze in small packages
- A loaf of store-made bread(this is my treat)
- Cream cheese or cottage cheese
- Some kind of rolls
- Cheeros or oatmeal when I need them
- Then I buy what's on sale-butter, raisins, pasta sauce, salad dressing, low fat pudding-I buy only on sale and I buy 'extra'. I have a side by side refrigeragor and I love the freezer part-I can find things on the shelves. And I have a 'pantry' cabinet so I can keep a lot of stuff. Once a year, we have a food drive at work and I evaluate what I bought that I haven't eaten and clean it out - usually stuff I like that was on sale a few times and I got carried away - this year I had like 8 cans of corn chowder - I like it, but I don't love it that much!
I buy all my paper products, soap, eggs, half and half, milk at a local drugstore chain-CVS. And in the 'non-shopping' weeks, I buy produce either at a local market or from a stand on the street. I spend @$100 at the grocery store, and that is just for me. I bring my lunch to work two days, and eat dinner at home 4-5 times a week.
When my mother's here, I get more treats-ice cream, cookies, crackers, because she weighs 105 pounds and 'nibbles' on stuff all day. Sometimes, I think she must have found me on the doorstep...
It was fun reading everyone's responses.

LOL!
I usually shop at 4 different places, depends on the type of food LOL:
Beef, Poultry, & Fish:
From my parents & in-laws fridge. Both have a stand-alone freezer and they buy in bulk. And I have to admit I don't pay.. it's the rule, "children" don't pay parents overhere
Bread:
Fresh from the bakery.. mainly pita bread. I buy a week's worth and freeze.. then microwave what I need and you'd think I bought it a
LOL Mary........that is the rule with my parents too but we sneak ways to pay them back in. My folks are on a real tight fixed income so I buy groceries/gas whenever I can to help them out and thank them for keeping my kids so much during school breaks!

My mom is the same way - she loves to clip coupons and read the grocery store ads to find bargains. She clips coupons for all of us, but she also buys things that she knows we use because they are on sale, then won't take any money for them. She'd rather give me a pound of butter she bought for $1.50 then let me pay $4.00 for a pound just because I need it...I try to buy on sale and with coupons, but I will never match her skill-sometimes, the store pays her to take things home!
My SIL and I both laugh about it-Mom 'saves' all this money, then gives the stuff to us. When she's broke, we'll be to blame.
However, when she's looking at coupons and says 'we should get a dog, look at how much money we could save on dog food' we say 'NO NO NO'
Of course, we do a lot for her so it isn't really an issue, but it is funny.
