Maybe eatting more smaller meals instead of the typical 3 larger meals will help, that way there is less time between food intake. That is what my trainer is having me try to do, try is the key word there >:)

First of all, if you're trying to follow a 1500 calorie diet, you're eating WAY too little! You should never eat fewer calories than your resting metabolic rate - your RMR is the amount of calories your body will burn if you did nothing but stayed in bed all day. Your estimated RMR is probably between 2200 and 2300 calories a day. The minute your caloric intake drops below that you're putting your body into starvation mode and your system goes into survival. It makes it much harder for you to lose weight that way and the longer term effects could be that your metabolism slows down completely.

Secondly, by putting yourself through that much deprivation, you're creating a cycle that's really difficult to break...you deprive your body of enough calories to function properly and then it's only natural that you'd want to eat everything in sight when you do eat enough...it's the way the human race has functioned for thousands of years...before modern society, think about the way primitive people lived..they had to work all day to get enough food to feed the entire tribe. And then there were winter seasons when food was more scarce and the entire tribe subsisted on very little...that's where their fat stores came in handy to keep them alive through the winter.

All that to say that you'll have much better luck sticking to a healthy eating plan if you keep your blood sugar steady by eating not only enough (probably around 2500 calories a day), but many smaller meals throughout the day. As someone else said, make sure these smaller meals all include some kind of carbohydrate and lean protein...that will help you get through the day with fewer uncontrollable cravings.

Good luck

Maryann,

Before you eat, try to ask yourself why you're eating this or that.. are you hungry? bored? angry? Maybe if you determine the reason why you're doing it, you can start searching for ways to stop binging. Good luck with your diet.

remember that the body/brain connection can be a bit weird.
the brain interprets "thirsty" signals as "hunger". so when you feel that hunger pang, drink a glass of water first and wait 10 or 15 minutes.
