Hi everyone!
This is my 1st post here. My name is Amy and I'm getting married next June. I have lots of weight to lose and I don't expect to have it all gone by the time I get married but I would like to lose a great deal by then. Does anyone know of any diets that are effective and don't cost a whole lot, if anything? I also need it to be something that will be fairly easy to stick with long term. I've got the motivation, now I just need the diet ideas.
I don't want to buy any food other than what's sold in the grocery store. We're paying for our wedding ourselves and need to spend as little as possible on EVERYTHING!
Any and all ideas will be greatly appreciated. I'm already working out 4 days a week and I'm going to try and bump it up to 6 but I have back problems and I dont want to over do it and keep myself out of the gym totally. I'm not looking for an easy way out, trust me! :)
Thanks in advance!!
Amy

Welcome to the board Amy and CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming wedding. Is it this June? Like in less than a month June? Or is it June next year?
For the "diet".. did you try to work around your existing menu to make it more diet friendly? Or do you think this may not work and you need the rigidity of a formal plan? It really depends on the person, so it's something for you to decide. "Cleaning up" your eating is pretty easy (pretty easy in theory LOL). Cut the soda out, don't eat fried foods, drink more water, and basically follow the recommended servings in the food pyramid.
Wishing you all the success and looking forward to your posts

WELCOME!! Congrats on the upcoming wedding.
I wish you the most luck. as for cheap, easy dieting. WOW I have been trying to do just that LOL unfortunately I am finding it not as cheap and easy as I want. LOL
I am trying to just make better choices, drink more water and not fry anything at home. Pretty much the same t hings Mary was saying in her post

Hi Amy! Congratulations on your wedding announcement, I'm getting married next spring too, and I ALSO have a ton of weight to lose. The best advice I can give you is that there is no "diet" that will work. I've been through the mill with diets, weight-loss programs, and all the rest of it. Nothing will work unless you are a brickhouse and don't bend even once. The best thing you can possibly do for yourself is make a lifestyle change. It isn't easy, and it's not always quick, but it's the best way to lose weight and keep it off, and it's the best thing you could do for yourself.
I just started with Curves, and it's such a great support system. It keeps you active, and on track, and makes you WANT to eat healthy to balance your lifestyle. I read a story in a magazine that one woman from curves starting weight was over 400lbs, and she lost 100lbs in her first 6 months. Now obviously, these results aren't the same for everyone, but it's a great system, and it's a way to another lifestyle.
Congratulations again, and good luck with your journey!
Believe me I am no stranger to the weight loss game. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I even lost 70lbs on weight watchers when I was around 18 or 19 but it just isnt as easy as it used to be. When I lost that much weight watchers was much more strict. I think they give you too much room to mess up :( Not that weight watchers isnt great, its just that I find it hard to do if Im not going and getting weighed by a virtual stranger every week. I cant afford to right now.
But again, thanks for the advice and the well wishes. Im sure you will all be hearing lots more from me! :)

Hi Amy, congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Just wanted to chime in on your post about Weight Watchers then and now.
I tried weight watchers too. They gave me 30 points plus the extra 35 a week. I had trouble eating enough to GET to 30 points, usually topping at around 25 or so per day. Its a good program as far as the graph-slidey things and point values, but they just give you too many points. If you've got a scale, the sliders, and the point value book, you can do WW yourself :) it doesnt replace the community or support that you get at an actual meeting, but it's a decent nutritional guideline.
Good luck again, and always feel free to post your wins, losses and gripes on the boards! Welcome :)
