Good Day,

My name is Jenn and I am at the heaviest I have ever been at my life. I have been struggling since I was a child with my weight and the past two years has been a roller coster of numbers. I started at 260 and got down to 240 doing atkins, than i gained it all back plus 10 and tried weight watchers, dropped it again and poped back up and this has gone on for too long same song and dance. For some reason I believe that i mentally sabatage myself when i dont see 5 pounds a week or more weight loss. Over the past 3 months I have been doing studies and looking into reasons why I have yo-yo'd and I have come to terms with reality. A) I try to do this on my own B) I dont ask for support and C) I expect too much too fast. Well A friend of mine told me about all the support and help she received from this message board and how with a place to vent my fustrations, report my success, and share in others struggles and triumphs it helped her lose 110 pounds and she has too this day kept it off. I decided to try something diffrent this time around . Insteads of setting weight loss goals I am going to set daily activity goals that I know are managable. At lunch I am going to walk for 30 minutes. I started doing this today and yesterday I started doing portion control and watching what foods i choose to eat. My boyfriend is going to diet with me as he also is in need and with my yo-yoing i have also caused him to do the same. From all the research I have read it seems that avoiding simple sugars and anything that has enriched or bleached flour is a good start. I am currently 300 and i stand 5*5 . My goal is to be between 145-150 , so i need to lose half of myself. Does anyone have some basic ideas that work? I dont drink pop or caffeine at that matter. If i drink juice it has to be from my juicer . Any advice would be helpful. I am both excited and nervous to start this journey, I do believe that all my failures have set me up for this final road to success.

Have a blessed day!

Hi Jenn, welcome to the board! I think it's good you've switched up your plan a little and are focusing on daily activity. Finding what works for YOU is really key, and it might take some tweaks here and there before you really get into your groove. Nothing wrong with taking just one thing at a time...I know it's overwhelming to think of the total number of pounds we want to lose, so just setting mini-goals is great.

You asked about basic ideas that work...well I think you're off to a good start with being aware of portion control and cutting out the processed foods you mentioned. I also stay away from sugar, but I'm afraid I still need my enriched flour bagels :) For me, the portion control was a real eye-opener...who knew a serving of spaghetti noodles wasn't supposed to be a third of the bag? LOL

On another note, you're story and mine sound a lot alike.

Hi Jenn, I'm hardly an expert, I've just come back to the board myself after being gone over two years and not dropping much weight. One very easy and clever trick I've used lately is to brush my teeth right after eating (a healthy meal, of course). There is just something about having a clean mouth feeling that prevents me from grazing back into the fridge or sticking my hand in a box of Cheese Nips. :) ~ Anna

Hello,
my story is similar to yours so I am join in! Iam 33 years old, with not so good English because I am from Europe and would like to do it my way this time! And that means realistic and slooooowly! The whole life I am trying to drop the pounds (kilograms in fact) quickly and the result is that I look like a house - 240 pounds and 5'6 inch. In Europe average weight is lower and I really really look "different". My goal is to become invisible in mass :)
Jenn, I am looking for e-mail buddy, so if you would like to be one please contact me to funnygirl33@net.hr, ok?

On topic - I will try to choose a lot's of food but healthy - like salads and not processed food. I dont like fruit a lot and some of them makes me hungry (like apples) so I will eat them in moderation. I will try to eat vegetables and quality meets. I think that quality food in Croatia is still not so expensive as in USA as we still have lots of farmers that are coming to open market in the cities so I consider myself lucky. I dont thing that would be like that because of lots of big shopping centers with some plastic vegetables food in them but what can i do? I am bother with that because I dont think that kind of food is healthy. But, being morbidly obese is also not healthy so I will shut up now :)
