Hey all,

I'm back again. I originally started on here 2 years ago, and came back every so often. However my weight has been creeping up and up, so I decided to do something about it once and for all.

I've joined a gym! Very scary when you have a lot to lose, but its not been bad at all.

I've also decided to weigh myself once a week, on proper scales! I surprisingly found out I was 173cm tall today, when I thought I was only 169cm (at least that brings my BMI down a tiny bit hehe)

Today I stand at 244 lbs.

It's so nice to find other people with the same problems as me,working together to give each other support, even though you are mostly all the other side of the Atlantic!

Speak to you all soon

Welcome back, Leah... and good for you!

I sill feel very self-conscious at the gym, because I don't go all that often... so I totally empathize... and am so impressed! What sort of workouts are you doing?

Wishin you good luck,

Leah,
The gym is at the center of my program - but when I started, my super fit brother told me that it takes six months before you feel 'at home' in a gym - that helped me a lot because I knew if that was true for him, it was definitely going to be true for me. And he was pretty on track. For a while I felt self-conscious-I thought everyone else was looking at me and thinking 'what is she doing here'. I've now realized that the kind of people whose opinion I value cheer for everyone who makes a committment to the gym-many of them have been where I was and when they see that someone is willing to do the work, they will be really supportive. But there are so many people who pass through quickly, it sometimes takes a while before anyone will 'invest' in a friendship with you.

Some of my nicest compliments and support have been from the people who work out at the same time as me - and it is funny when people who I admired in the beginning say that they admire my committment or progress. So if you can tolerate some discomfort at the beginning, the gym can become a great place for you.

And most people are so focused on their workout that other people barely register...

Best wishes on your journey

It was lovely for to hear all your replies. I'm from England, and not following a particular exercise regime at the gym just varying workouts on different machines.

Next I'm going to have to change my diet...the problem is I snack far too much, far too unhealthily in the evenings.

Thanks again for all your messages of encouragement.
