Let's Give It Up!
| Mon, 05-21-2007 - 11:08am |
This is a three-part question for everyone:
- What's the hardest thing you've given up since starting your weight loss journey?
- What have you given up/let go of that was easier than you expected it to be?
- What's left? What do you wish you could get yourself to stop doing/let go/give up?

Answering my own questions:
Annie
"We do not think ourselves into new ways of living. We live ourselves into new ways of thinking."
Great questions!
1. What's the hardest thing you've given up since starting your weight loss journey?
After really thinking about this one, I would have to say negative thoughts about myself. They almost always lead to a setback.
2. What have you given up/let go of that was easier than you expected it to be?
Giving up red meat and eating more vegetarian meals.
3. What's left? What do you wish you could get yourself to stop doing/let go/give up?
I still give in to the delicious temptation of sugary sweets and use them as a coping strategy when I am stressed. I also struggle with my goal of planning a weekly menu.

This is a three-part question for everyone:
What's the hardest thing you've given up since starting your weight loss journey?
Soda Pop
What have you given up/let go of that was easier than you expected it to be?
Breads and High carb foods
What's left? What do you wish you could get yourself to stop doing/let go/give up?
Obsessing over every detail, every calorie, every carb,. I wish I could eat normally and not think so much about it or feel like i am playing russian roulette with the devil himself everytime i go to put something in my mouth.
What's the hardest thing you've given up since starting your weight loss journey?
The hardest thing for me is definitely potato chips. Other things I can have a little and stop, but chips are a big trigger for me and once I start, I can easily eat a huge bag-and want more tomorrow.
What have you given up/let go of that was easier than you expected it to be?
It took me forever, but the past two months I have stopped snacking at night-I thought I would never be able to do this, but between my own trainer saying 'I think we've found the root of the problem-don't you?', and one of the other trainers saying 'Just stop it SJ, just don't do it' something has clicked with me and I feel like I've finally broken that habit.
What's left? What do you wish you could get yourself to stop doing/let go/give up?
I wish I could stop thinking that weekends were 'free time'. I can stay on plan all week, but once its Friday night, I have to really work to make myself not go back to old ways.

Great questions Annie, thanks for asking
The hardest thing was Root Beer. Pepsi and stuff like that was easy easy easy... but when I'm out at a restaurant with friends, it takes everything I have in me to order that water instead of the root beer...
The easiest thing was white bread products. I thought it was going to be expensive and inconvenient, but whole wheat and multigrain stuff is becoming easier and easier to come by. Also on this list of easy things to give up are salt, bad oils, and potato chips.
The thing I'd really like to get rid of is the sporadic snacking. If someone brings a box of chocolates into the house, i really really want chocolate. Little things like that are hard to kick, but it's either kick it or be heavy for the rest of my life.

Creme horns! I absolutely love them, but they have been blacklisted at this house.
What have you given up/let go of that was easier than you expected it to be? Large portions. I thought it would be HORRIBLE to have small portions and I thought I was going to be hungry all the time. I haven't starved yet. Hehe.
What's left? What do you wish you could get yourself to stop doing/let go/give up? I wish I could get myself to do more grueling exercise. I'm starting slow, but I really miss being able to go for runs.
