Holiday Weekend Strategies?

For everyone in the US, and I think in England, we have a long weekend ahead-Memorial Day in the US and what I think in London is called 'Late Spring Holiday'.

I know a lot of us struggle with the two day weekends - what will we be doing to make it through three days? At least in New England, this is the first 'summer' weekend (before it starts raining from June 1 to the Fourth of July!) - which means ice cream, barbecues, and general all around eating...

So anyway, what are your plans for the weeekend? Any good meal tips? Extra exercise opportunities? Please share.

I try to take on a big project that I've been putting off for a long time. It keeps my time occupied and I finally get to cross something off my to do list. So this weekend I'm trying to finish the picture quilt I've been planning to make for my parents for literally years.

We always go to the family cabin for long weekend which usually means, white russians, bud light and camp fires until the cows come home. My boyfriend and I discussed this years strategy. Diet sodie , lots of bottled water , and grilled chicken, fish, and fresh kabobs. We put tomatoes, and onions, and mushrooms some bell peppers and of course.. steak, on them, so that way we aren't eating too much red meat. As for the drinking we are going to try and avoid it at all cost. Just in case I am brining my diet cherry 7up and vodka, almost no calories and zero carbs for sure!. .. also bring yourself snacks, pack a mini cooler with those snack bags full of cucumbers, and grilled chicken pieces, carotts, apples, pealed oranges, a banana , broccoli and cauliflower, some bell pepper slices. If your a chocolate fan Hershys makes mini bars of their special dark chocolate with 45-50% cocoa in them that will curve that craving. Oh yea, try to be as active as possible. Take the kids or tyhe puppy or even that special someone to the park for a round of Frisbee, or just go for a walk, if you are near a lake and done have to worry about water moccasins go swimming, if you have a pool go swimming. my plan is to stay as busy as possible and as far away from the frudge and my favorite not -so-good for you favorites.

Have a great day everyone.

In Canada, we just celebrated Victoria Day weekend. I did little things that made the holiday a little healthier. The potato salad was made with yogurt instead of mayo, I made a simple fruit dessert with a light merangue base, and served fresh fruit juice instead of pop. Was I perfect this weekend? No. I had a sponge cake with a dollop of cool whip. Do I still consider this a victory over the infamous holiday-weekend splurge? Absolutely.

SJ, you read my mind!

My kiddies are staying with my mom for a couple of nights so DH and I can strip the wallpaper and paint our kitchen.

I'm working all weekend, so it makes it much easier for me to stay on plan.
