pedometer question

I just bought myself a pedometer, so I'm going to try to do 70,000 steps each week.
But i'm not sure how accurate it will be cause for some reason i hasn't been showing as many steps as i'm taking. maybe i don't jiggle enough when i walk. for instance, i just walked to the bathroom and i counted my steps, and it was 88 steps. the pedometer only showed 42.
It also has the mileage counter on it but i haven't tried that yet...

does anybody have any suggestions or ideas ?

I have it clipped to my waistband, like the instructions say.

Well, my guess would be that it's couting half your steps (the ones from the leg you are wearing it on) so maybe you could just double the number it gives you to get a good estimate?

I can't get them to work right either so I just don't bother with them.

I have like 3 at home, 1 I bought and 2 out of a kellogs cereal box......LMAO

Most pedometers need to have the stride length adjusted. It should have come with directions on how to do this for the model you have, or you can search it to get some instructions. If I remember correctly you have to measure out a certain distance, walk it and find out how many steps you take then you adjust the pedometer.

Sara,

I've found that mine depends a lot on the kind of pants I'm wearing.

I guess it does make sense that if i'm wearing it on my right hip, it only counts the steps from that leg.. cause it has been totalling about 1/2 of my steps.
Today i'm going to walk after work and use the mileage counter.. cause the "path" i use to take the kids for a walk is 3.5 miles.
I did adjust the stride length.. so hopefully it'll be somewhat accurate.
