Why Do We Make Ourselves FROWN???

Hi y'all,

Why do we make ourselves look at the negative instead of the positive? Why do we tend to look at the glass as half empty instead of half full? We complain if it rains without realizing how beautiful the raindrops are...We live by the ocean without ever walking by the shore...We live in a vibrant desert without leaving our home because it's too dry, too hot, too????? We live our life so fast that we do not appreciate all of the small, wonderful steps.

I was like that about my weight loss journey. Complaining that I was not losing weight fast enough, was not exercising, not drinking enough water....you know the list goes on and on! Well, enough is enough...we too must look at all of our fantastic, minute successes...each and EVERY step!

I weighed 330 pounds in December 2005. I now weigh 227 pounds. Instead of looking at how much closer I am to 199 pounds....( 28 pounds instead of 131 lbs...)I think that I am not losing the weight fast enough or that I look flabby or ....??? We MUST think POSITIVE and enjoy EVERY small success along the way! Each pound lost gets us closer to our final goal! Drinking one more glass of water than yesterday is a step in the right direction! Exercising for an extra minute is better than not exercising at all! Reaching more steps on our pedometers is getting us moving....that is a good thing!

Let's start posting all of our POSITIVE steps getting us closer to our GOAL! Remember, it doesn't matter how small a change it is, they are all changes that we are making that are getting us thinner & making us healthier! Here's to making 2007 our BEST year yet!!!!!!

Dancerchick, you rock! I agree with everything you say.. and I think that looking at the positive does motivate us to continue and achieve more.

The only thing I want to add is a little warning. Don't allow yourself, when you look at all the positive achievements you made, to make this an excuse to slide back. Not to pat yourself on the back for all the good things you've done and start allowing slip ups cuz "you've already been at it for so long and you "deserve" a little treat". I usually fall into that trap, so I thought I should add my 2 cents here.

Otherwise, by all means let's focus on the positive and celebrate every achievement and every step we take.

VERY GOOD words of advice!!!

Sometimes we do get so lost in what we don't have that we forget the good that we do have!! Nice post to start the day with. Thanks

Hi,

You are right! The good & positive side is that if we do take a "detour" or slip up....we MUST get right back on the road to success! My weight loss journey started back in 1974....Whew...am I dating myself....HA!HA!HA!, but it is true....it started when I entered high scool and the school nurse put me on a diet. I weighed 174 pounds...I got down to 159 lbs. the ,owest weight I've ever been. Guess what?? I now look at pictures of myself back then.....and I did not look that bad....of course by listening to the media and looking at all of the "TWIGGY-like" models...I was considered OBESE! The world2ws obsession with being "THIN" really made me fat. I now feel that I need to get thin, but more imporantly HEALTHY!

I can HONESTLY say I do not want to look like most of the models I see. They are ENTIRELY too thin and where I want to be thin, I don't want to look like a bag of bones!!

What is it with the media and these women anyways?? It is nice to be thin, but not sickly looking!!

My grandmother (who had a million sayings) always said:

As a rule a man's a fool
When its hot he wants it cool
When it cool he wants it hot
Always wanting what is not.

But we are WOMEN - so we can want what is! I loved what you said about the ocean - every time I go to Cape Cod, summer, winter, spring, fall - I have to go to the ocean. Some of my extended family live their year round and they go to the beach once or twice a summer. I just don't understand that.

The world we live in can be so beautiful if we can open our eyes and see it. And each of us is beautiful too, we just don't let ourselves beleive it.

Thanks for a great post!

Hi,

I LOVE the ocean, but I live in the desert now. I am learning to appreciate all of its beauty. We must keep taking our steps towards our destiny without forgeting to enjoy the moments along the way!
