Things We Wish People Knew...

A few times last week there were times when I was interacting with someone and thought "Boy, if you only KNEW how challenging it is to lose this much weight" or "You don't have a CLUE about what it's like to be significantly overweight!"

Okay, here's what started me on this path.

How about that we're NOT this way by choice?

I wish people knew...

...that quick fix diets and/or pills aren't the answer.

That's it does matter what you are eating, my sil keeps insisting that it doesn't matter what you eat, exercise is basically all that matters.

One thing I find myself saying, not to everyone, but for certain comments about my having lost weight 'I was a good person even when I was fat'...I wish people could see that it is what on the inside that matters.

In fact, I think I was a 'nicer' person when I was heavier - I never said things like 'I appreciate that you cooked that just for me, but its not on my eating plan today' or 'I'm sorry, I can't stay late, I have to go to the gym'. So maybe I wish people knew that you have to be tough to succeed on this journey, and a little bit selfish.

I wish that people would understand that just because someone is overweight it's not necessarily because they are unhealthy. (I know someone mentioned that it's not always our faults)

I'd also like people to understand that just because someone is thin doesn't mean that they are healthy.

Take my cousin and I. She is about half the size of me and she has an AMAZING metabolism!!! She might as well live at McDonald's!!! Her blood pressure and cholesterol are FAR worse than mine, and I'm carrying around 100 extra lbs!!!

BUT...in response to those who whine about a 'few extra pounds' I DID have a friend point out to me (she got married about 2 years ago and has since gained about 25 lbs.) She told me that she 'feels fat' because the clothes that she currently owns don't fit her anymore. She doesn't do it to make me feel bad or to make herself feel better....she's just vocal about the way that she feels and right now she feels fat. I TOTALLY understand that! Anywho..that' just my thoughts on the subject :)

I wish people knew that telling me how pretty my face is right before they insult me on my weight doesn't soften the blow or make me feel any better afterwards.
