What's Your "Mantra"?

Mandy mentioned in Annie's 'funk' thread that her mantra is "this too shall pass" (one that resonates with me as something I try to continually remind myself as well)...and one of mine is "fake it until you make it"...practice the behavior you want to incorporate into your life until it really is just another part of your life.

So...what's your mantra or phrase that keeps you going?

One of mine is:

"Stop thinking about it and just do it!" Mostly for exercising, I usually end up trying to find an excuse not to do it or decide on when I should, so I tell myself stop thinking about it and just go.

I have a few. When I am working out and want to stop early, or don't want to go at all, I say 'What are you going to do instead?' and it usually isn't anything worthwhile.

Another is 'Is that the best choice?'

And something I say all the time - 'it is what it is'

SJ, "It is what it is" was my other choice!

"Easy Does It", i did not become overweight overnight, and so i truly accept the fact that my course is targeted for at least 6 months. I am reading a very good book (get it from the library) Susan Potter's, ( i may have not spelled the last name correctly)"Stopping The Insanity"..She was more than 260lbs after the birth of her last child, she explains all of the agony, pain, shame, guilt and remorse she had to endure being overweight, Vividly she describes the stares we get from others whether we are shopping for food, clothing or out just browsing. So my mantra is "easy does it". i must take thought to what i am doing for the good of me and know that i am walking out of gloom, despair, and overeating into light, good health and normal eating habits. Here's to all of us as we march on to victory over the foods that keep us in bondage. One thing that really struck me absolutely hard was when susan said, "fat foods make you fat".. i must be honest everything that i ingested was fat; honestly fatty saturated, buttered down, triples of cheese, mounds of ice cream and pounds of chocolate...it's the truth as we cut out the fatty stuff the inches will come off and the pounds will shed away and the cellulite will dissolve.

I actually have a couple more that I don't use quite as often...

  • I'm only one choice away from being back on track (that's for when I lapse! LOL)

  • Just 5 more minutes (when I'm feeling like stopping my workout - I usually end up going longer)

I also keep reminding myself that, as sunnygirl said, I didn't get to this weight overnight and I'm not going to get where I want to be overnight.

for every day that we abstain from fatty substances that destroy our energy levels, for every additional spoon of sugary whatever, that we refuse to ingest, for every refreshing breath that we breathe in, for every step that we climb, for every stare we ignore, for the sacred music that soothes our nerves, for the friends and or family members that encourage us, for the faith or religion of our choice, for the freedom to start over again if we relapse and for all of the wise cracks; we claim complete victory, because today is another chance to do what is right for our sanity and our complete well being. thanks for being another powerful voice out there!

Hi Kelly,

I seem to be using "This too shall pass" a lot lately, with "It is what it is" running a close second, but I'm definitely in the market for a new mantra.

I really like Sarah's... "Stop thinking about it and just do it!" Over-analyzing is one of my most entrenched bad habits. But then I *think* of all the trouble I could get into that way, LOL!

Maybe something from Jeeves & Wooster? The idle-and-none-too-bright rich seem to have such lovely attitudes towards life! Unfortunately, the only thing that pops into my mind now is "It's positively the cat's nightwear, old bean". Errrr... maybe not. I'll keep shopping around.
