I have never belonged to Curves, so this is an uninformed opinion....
I think Curves is great for someone starting out - if you find a co-ed gym threatening/intimidating, Curves can be a good option.
I'm no expert on Curves vs regular gym. But, one thing that I'll throw out there is something that happened to me when I was in College. I joined a gym where I paid roughly $500 up front and the deal was that if I decided to quit, I'd be reimbursed for the mths not used. Well, I paid the money and then the gym went belly-up. My money was gone. With Curves, you've got that big name security. Probably not going to happen to you, but just something to keep in mind.
Now, I was watching a TV show called X-Weighted (a Canadian show). This is one of those reality weight-loss shows where there's an overweight or obese subject, and they get hooked-up with a trainer/weight-loss team for 6 mths. Anyways, that trainer was discouraging the lady from doing Curves. He gave his reasons, but I don't really remember them.
Anyhow, good luck with your decision :) And Congratulations for making a decision to join a gym. It's something that I'm dragging my butt about! lol.
I've never belonged to a gym at all, but I'm all for saving money and if the hours are more convenient for you, you'll be more likely to go.
That's an absolutely GREAT first week!!
That's Great! When I joined the gym, I piad for three months and so the first time I wnet I thought well-unless I go again, that hour cost (whatever it was-can't remember).
