This one's from my part-time almost neighbor courtesy of someone several of us know.

Fiction is the truth inside the lie.~ Stephen King

Stole it right out of Jessica's newsletter! And what's the name of her newsletter? The Writing Life, of course!

So true. And here's a question for you all . . . do you sometimes find that truth of your story (at least in creative nonfiction) sometime lies outside the confines of the actual happenings? That is, does your story seem more accurate if you shuffle around the order of events or tamper with what was actually said?

Just pondering,

So far, Ada, my creative non-fiction is almost entirely fiction motivated by some truth that lies buried inside. Truth in this instance can remain as true as I learned it (which may not be true at all) or can be prodded and shaped to fit the story around it.

Think maybe truth, like beauty, lies in the eye of the beholder?
