I just ordered info for both Carolinas. North Carolina has mountains (hiking) and coast (cabana boys). Which do you prefer?

South Carolina I think, is more beach, touring, etc.?

Any suggestions, opinion?

Also, looks like October is the choice. I'm thinking that would be more pleasant weather as well.

Well, it depends on what you want to do, and when you go. As I mentioned, the mountains of NC are beautiful in the fall. There's Asheville, which is beautiful and has the Biltmore Estate too.

South Carolina has historic Charleston with the gorgeous 18th c. homes and coastal terrain.

We could research and see what goes on in both states in whatever month we decide to go.

South Carolina also has Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach. Either one sounds great, although if we have it in October, I want to see some beautiful fall foliage. I voted for Colorado, but the Carolinas are beautiful, too. The reason I voted for Colorado is that I've never been to that state. Plus it isn't very far from Texas. Plus it has beautiful mountains and I'm a mountain girl. Plus, I was trying to win brownie points with Phyllis. Hehe!

Yipeee, I am behind in posts so I'm not sure how the discussion about getting together shifted to the Carolinas but this would be great for me if it is Ashville. My In-laws live in Tryon and I really like the area. The mountains are fab and October is a great month for me!

I hope that we can continue doing this and see a different place each year!

Hilton Head is pretty close to Charleston. My cousin has an oceanfront condo in Myrtle Beach, but doubt we could all stay there. ;-) I voted for the Carolinas, because it's not too terribly far from FL, but is also closer for a lot of other people. I love the fall foliage there. We usually stay at a neat place called The Fryemont Inn in Bryson City, which is by the architect who did Biltmore House, but it is totally different. It's close to a lot of places, like Asheville, Maggie Valley, Cherokee, Gatlinburg, TN, etc. There's horseback riding, hiking, white water rafting, a scenic train ride, and things like that. Excellent food too!

I'm for the mountain areas, especially if the date is October. Crisp air, fall colors... hiking would be great. I think I mentioned Asheville & the Grove Park Inn in a post to you. It's a resort, so it's more pricey, but check out their page at http://www.groveparkinn.com/ . Detailed info on the Spa amenities, since we were talking about getting pampered! Pools for those of us who like to swim, fitness center, dining on premises, mountain views. Since we usually visit MIL when we go to the NC mountains (Hendersonville), I've never really looked into hiking or other possibilities in the area, though during September through November the hotel celebrates "Autumn in the Mountains" and recommends their Inn as a starting point for scenic drives and hikes. They could probably provide info.

Rhonda's idea of the Fryemont Inn is a good one as well. More relaxed, more away from it all, probably closer to the outdoor activities some of us are seeking.

I could go either way: rustic or pampering!

I've ridden through their grounds and walked through the lobby a few times just because it is such a pretty place, but have never stayed there. That whole area up there is beautiful, but does book up way in advance for mid-October.

Hey Kat:

I voted for Colorado too! I love it there, I have family there, and it's right next door to Nebraska. I think Phyllis could put us all up at her place...right? Convince the Queen to give up her bed?
