Its a good news, bad news thing

remember how I was talking about retiring and moving to Tulsa, OK in 12/04? It ain't happenin'. Johnny planned on surprising me and telling me that he was being presented an award and wanted me to come. What he was going to do is have me pin his rank on him.

We saw a guy at the DMV the other day and he told Johnny congratulations. I asked what it was about and he brushed it off. All the sudden several of his Army buddies that he keeps in contact with have been calling. I got home from hiking and there was a message saying "congratulations for making the list." :-o I called him at work and badgered him so he finally had to tell me.

The bad part of this is that I have to keep starting all over again. I'm sure he'll stay in the Army until they kick his rear out. This is a tough business to keep starting over and over....oh well...life goes on. It could be a wonderful adventure.

Phyllis - It does indeed sound like good news/bad news, but as a non-military type, I don't understand the code. Has Johnny been promoted? Please enlighten me.

oops. Yes he is. I have to laugh because my first briefing when we got married, I had no idea what anyone was saying with all the acronyms and terms they use. Now I'm doing it too...sheesh!

OK, now that I'm enlightened a little, next step - new post for him? New place for you? Building your client base from the beginning? Another challenge that you'll overcome, I'm sure.

I am with Donna, a bit confused. John got a promotion in the Army, which is a great thing....but? Does that mean a transfer? How many moves have you had to make? I guess if the answer is yes to the move do you have any idea where you will be going? When will this actually happen? I wish you luck and I understand your concerns. I moved into 10 homes with in the first 12 years we were married. Once we moved back to LI and East Islip I vowed no more. We stayed for 12 years in our other house. This place it the end of the line. Congrats to John, I am sure you are proud of him.

OK...let me slow down and try to explain a little better. In military, we're only at a post (location) for 3 years. We have already extended a year to stay here so we will have to move again. I don't know if they will still keep his extension until 12/04 since he's not retiring. At some point, we will have to move.

I will have to rebuild my business in a new location each time we move. No idea as to the next post.

How sweet of him to make it a surprise...at least try to. I'm glad he got a promotion. It *is* job security in a tight economy. And just think of the network of clients and friends you're building all over the place.

First , congratulations to Johnny.Next, what are the odds of getting to VA???I know this must be difficult for you.You get settled in and then move again.Plus I know you had plans for his retirement. But you know what I think???I think you are the kind of person who truly touches others lives, I always think about what you do for the elderly that you help.Plus I think of your clients. This is a way for others to be blessed by knowing you.

The best thing is that you can take a computer anywhere and I don't have to deal with losing a buddy.Yeah, yeah I know it's not always about me!!!!

Tell Johnny that the Pentagon is a cushy assignment and Springfield is just a 15 minute metro bus/rail ride away! I figure there is a 50-50 chance that you'll move closer to Northern Virginia and therefore, closer to Patty and me. Congrats the Johnny. When I was younger, I never wanted to move. Now I would love to get outta here for a change of scenery. I can't imagine starting all over again with your business each place you go to. But try to think of it as an adventure. An opportunity.

Keeping ya in my thoughts!

Congratulations to Johnny! I know how you feel, I can't imagine moving from this wonderful place I live. I couldn't wait to get out of where we were (CA) to come here. I always wanted to move until I found my place. It's here. I'd have such a hard time moving and I don't even have a business!

Congratulations to Johnny! How much longer will he be expected to stay in the service now that he has been promoted?

Part of me envies you. I always maintained that I person should move every 5 years at least just to clean out all of the old junk! LOL

But on the other side of the coin, my heart goes out to you. I can't imagine having to start your business all over again and leaving all of the contacts you have made.

As someone said, at least you have your computer and we can all keep in touch.
