Do you like mornings, afternoon or evenings for workouts?Do you like solo or group workouts? And do you like intense workouts or something calm like yoga?

I wish I could do morning workouts but I do better mid morning or afternoon.I mostly like solo unless I can get my sister to walk with me.She has a new job which is really taking up alot of her time so we haven't been walking much.(I feel so alone!!!!)I try yoga and can sometimes do it but my mind wanders too much.I get confused with tapes. That's why I love walking or running, no thinking involved.

What about you guys????

I don't really have a typical MO. As I get up early enough, thank you, I prefer working out mainly early evening. On weekends I can manage to get up and out the door by 8:30 if it's a beautiful morning and I want to go for a walk; then I'm eager to get the rest of my workout done right after.

I prefer solo workouts, unless I can drag DH out for a walk (dragging him counts as part of the workout). I hate, hate, hate classes, and most of the ones I've taken have been led by Barbie and her family, so I'll probably not participate in a class again.

I don't like intense workouts, but I do them for the cardio and toning/sculpting benefits; I know what the research says, but I don't feel like I get as much out of a more relaxed effort. I'm trying to incorporate more yoga, but I find, like you, that my mind keeps trying to hash stuff out. Even if I try to incorporate a mantra, no matter what it might be, I start talking to myself about other stuff. Maybe if I just repeated, slowly, "chocolate", it'd work? Or clucked like a chicken?

I exercise when the mood strikes me....

Actually, I like to exercise right after work. Helps me to relax and unwind from the stresses of the day. I wish I could exercise first thing in the morning, but it takes me so long to get my act together in the morning that I would never have time unless I started getting up at 4am.

Now there's an idea...

Well, I am too lazy to get up before 6:30 to exercise in the mornings so I have to exercise after work. I do not like classes or tapes, I also like to exercise solo or with dh. We mainly walk and hike and sometimes I do the treadmill. I like my exercise time to be private, a time to reflect on life and enjoy nature. I do not do yoga, I have tried many times but my brain will not shut off either.

Have a great day!

Lori - I tried 4 am a couple of times. Don't do it. The view is - well, it's really dark. My DH tries and mostly succeeds at working out a couple of mornings a week at that savage hour; I don't know how he does it, especially since he's stayed up the night before watching Letterman, or a Red Sox game if they're on the West Coast.

Actually, if I could manage to get up that early, I'd try to get into the office so I could leave by 2 or 2:30 pm, get home at a civilized hour, and work out then.

Speaking of leaving, time to go....

I like mid mornings.

I usually prefer solo.

I have days that I love an intense workout and days that I just want to do Yoga. Other than hiking/trail running, I'm getting to where I prefer a more gentle workout.

Early morning for running (cooler then), mid-morning for video tapes (before shower), though mid-afternoon is okay too. I like going solo since I can set the pace and focus on whatever I need to. Gimme the more intense stuff - I wanna sweat and get my heart rate up there!

Depends on the exercise -- if it's a video or at a club, I'm better off going in the morning or I usually won't do it.

Swimming/boogie boarding -- late morning or early afternoon

Mowing -- usually seems to work out to be in the heat of the day

Yard "projects" -- all day from early morning until dark or later

Walking on the beach -- morning. Evening would be nice too, but I'm not usually there then.

Its mid morning for me too. Problem with that I always have so many things to do, errands to run, cleaning to do and once I start I forget about the exercise or find an excuse. Today was a perfect example. Now I went to bed at 10:30 and got up at 8, what is my excuse for today?

If I don't get my main workout in by mid morning, it most likely will not happen!!! I'm just not into working out in the evening. I get the kids to bed and kick off my shoes! I like solo, but it sure is fun working out with someone else! I think it's more inspirational. Dh and I used to go to the gym together and it was lots of fun and I went to the gym a couple of weeks ago with dh's cousin and it was fun too! But I don't think night's would cut it for me anymore. I never thought I'd say this,....but I'm becoming a morning person!!!!
