Lets talk about food!

Here is something I think we all enjoy talking about and heaven knows there is enough ideas and opinions floating around all of us. I think Patti asked Deb-WA about how much or how little she eats and it kind of got me thinking. How much is too much? What works for you and why? Lets share secrets, or just ideas. Since we are going to try Nancy's idea of the 5 out of 7 good days I thought this might help.

I guess I can start. I have found especially in this past week I have done better with my low carbs and higher protien by having several meals through out the day. I hate to call them "meals" but more snacks. By journaling things too I find I have made an effort to behave. My busier days when I do not eat my snacks I feel hungrier and have trouble controlling the urge to splurge. Having the proper "tools" in the house is so important too. I found this week I made JELLO. Not for the kids but for me. The sugar-free ones, and some Cool Whip Free for the top......yummy! Only 25 calories for that snack and no carbs. Welches Ice Pops are great too only 25 calories. A great summer treat. Also after my last shopping trip I took Chicken Cutlets, and rewrapped the breasts individually.

Well that was some of my ideas this week. Any one else find something that works well for them?

Hmmm...ideas...I have trouble in this department.

I still depend heavily on my George Foreman grill. Last night it was grilled chicken with canned beets and some heavenly melon. It was lovely, but I still found myself craving carbs after that. So I topped it off with some toast. Doesn't seem like a meal to me without a hunk of bread in it. On the other hand, I've been able to cut out the rice lately...no time to cook it...LoL.

Sugar is the real bad-guy for me. If it's sweet, I'll eat it. And way too much of it. What I need is someone to go grocery shopping with me and slip all the sweet stuff back on the shelves when I'm not looking.

Sometime ago and I have no clue where but I passed a comment about having to "still" sweets like the cookies, and cakes because I have kids. They said well they would not buy it and they would teach their kids to enjoy and eat "heathy" snacks. Well I disagree, I believe because I am on a "diet" does not mean the rest of the family can not have things. I have those goodies here, I just need to learn to make better choices for me. I mentioned the sugar free jello. Great low calorie snack add some whipped topping and its like heaven. Now that I make it my kids love it and eat them. Hard boiled eggs, they sneak them too. It all balances out. Just like our new challenge about 5 out of 7 healthy eatting and exercise days. Healthy does not mean you can not have a cookie it means you can not have the entire sleeve of cookies. JMO

PS: I think we all have the sweet tooth, its just control. Sometimes you just need it.

LoL...control is what I don't have! I know, I know, I should be able to just leave the stuff alone, but I can't help myself. I'm very good at having just one cookie. The problem is I have them one at a time about 20 minutes apart. I don't have kids in the house anymore and DH doesn't need to worry about his weight so much as I do. I agree that it's not right to 'make' everyone else in the house eat the same way I do as I feel it's a personal choice. But the fact is that if DH is not going to help me with the grocery shopping, he can eat what I buy. JMO.

My sweet tooth is out of control and I'm trying to get better. It's a rough road for me. Especially when my dad keeps bringing what we call "Grandma Rolls" around. She makes the best cinnamon rolls in the world!
