Someone asked about books to read a 5-year-old. Here are some of my favorites for kids that age.

Stafford, William: The Animal That Drank Up Sound, Illustrator: Frasier, Debra

CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS - Judi Barrett

IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE - Laura Joffe Numeroff

WHEN THE WIND STOPS - Charlotte Zolotow

FWIW - if you're ever looking for recommendations for different agegroups - go to Chinaberry: http://www.chinaberry.com/ for *the* best reference. It's a delightful catalog with wonderful descriptions and very on-target recommendations.

Some of my favorites that I remember are "A Special Trade," "Koko's Kitten," "The Giving Tree," all the Berenstain Bears books, "Mike Mulligan's Steam Shovel," "James the Jaguar," "Come Over to My House," "Stand Back Said the Elephant, I'm Going to Sneeze," and books of children's poems like some by Robert Louis Stevenson. Children love the rhythm of poems.
