I'm so frustrated

We work with different breeds in our company. Each breed has different temperature charts and light charts. Now one of the company guys has decided that growers no longer need to know which breed they have. They said we need to just watch the breeds and see how they respond to temps. This is the same guy who 5 yrs ago said growers didn't need to know about breeds because they would use it as an excuse.I just feel like the company people have no respect for the work we do or the investment we have in these chicken houses.Plus now the company has made some changes and the competition is getting tighter and tighter. There is no margin for error and truthfully I'm not sure I can handle this.I'm furstrated and scared and feeling very inadequate.

Patty,

The "you don't need to know" syndrome seems to be running rampant through just about every occupation and type of company. Don't feel that you're inadequate because people don't want to give you information so that you can run your business the right way. See how much of the blame they want to take when they won't inform you and things go wrong. I can certainly see how frustrating this must be for you.

Hugs,

Susan

Hey Sweetie. I was angry and frustrated just reading your post. What a bunch of crock! This is so typical of the US corporation mentality. Screw the little guy. I'm sorry you're going thru this. Hang in there. Here with you. I know you will push forward and do a great job!

Do the breeds all look so closely alike that you wouldn't be able to tell? Can you get a chicken breed expert in to give you a head's up? How do they expect you to monitor the temperatures 24 hours a day?

Thinking about you. Wish I was there to beat up the company guy...I am getting pretty ripped you know!

Love ya.

Sassy.

The good breed that preforms best has black spots. That used to be our heads up before they started telling us what we had.The kicker now is that the lousy breed has also picked up that characteristic.Plus sometimes they mix them which really makes for a challenging job of raising them.Today that issue made me mad then a conversation with service guy about the "no room for error" made me go straight into a panic mode. This is what pays my bills!!Plus if your numbers drop the company can at any time drop your contract.I was just starting to relax and now I feel the pressure building up.It's not helping that Flo is a week late and still pushing all my buttons.Tomorrow I'll be more rational or maybe one day next week......

Thanks!!Good to now you and your ripped self are in my corner.

Here's my thought on situations like these...it's all happening for a reason, Patty-cakes. Maybe you are supposed to be looking at doing something else. Is there something that's been tickling your fancy lately that you've dreamed about doing but don't have time, are too focused on other stuff, etc? And I'm not talking the deserted island or the cabana boys! Maybe you're not listening to what you're really supposed to be doing. Or maybe this is all a way for changes to be made at the company level. When the company stops succeeding, they'll figure out what THEY did wrong.

I don't know what else to tell you other than to say keep doing what you're doing, listen for what you should be doing.

Love ya.

Patty, I can hear the frustration in your message. And I don't blame you. Every person needs all of the information they can get about what they are doing. That is like telling you to go to the doctor when you're ill, and don't tell him your symptoms. Just see if he can watch you and figure out what is wrong with you. Well, it might work eventually. But you'll continue to get sicker while he's figuring it out and it will take away his efficiency. You can probably do this, too, but it will take away your efficiency, too. And will you have to wait till the birds look 'poorly' before you know that you're using the wrong temp, etc? What stupidity!!! I think that these guys up on the top rungs of the corporate ladder should have to do exactly what they expect those below to do. If this guy thinks it's going to be so easy, let him come out and try it a month or so....see how it works for him.

Meanwhile, this ranting and raving of mine won't help you, either. So Patty, I am sending you big hugs your way. And I'm thinking along the same lines that Sassy is. Maybe this is a sign that you should 'think' about what is happening. Maybe God is telling you to open your eyes and mind to something else. Maybe you are up to the challenge, though. Hmmm, ever think about that one?

Take care and good luck!!

Nancy

I guess I'm just too outspoken and headstrong to go along with what that guy says without seeing what the options are first. Is he as high as you can go, or does he report to other people at the corporate level? I would contact someone over him and tell him your dilemma. You're interested in producing the best product you can, and under these conditions it's doubtful that will happen. Why play a guessing game and take a chance? Is there some valid reason this guy wants you in the dark, or is it some kind of head game or power play? You AND the company stand to benefit from excellence, so it seems that they would do everything possible to support you in your effort.

I'd also do some research to see if there is a surefire way to identify the various breeds, so that if you MUST guess what kind of chickens you're raising, you really won't have to. Is there a web site on the Internet that would give that information or direct you to a book that does? I hate to see you be at the mercy of some jerk.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll figure out what's right for you to do and what you're comfortable with. Best of luck with it.

Hugs,

Rhonda

Nancy, like you I feel these guys should have to do what we do for awhile.I get so frustrated with their attitudes.Raising a living thing is so challenging at times.I know you understand that. And I know you understand those times of pressure that come with farming.I don't know if I'm up to the challenge or not but I've made up my mind to sure try to be.I love what I do too much to let some office guy do me in:)Thanks so much for the post.

I sent this guy an email and it will be interesting to see if I hear back from him.I really think this guy did it just because he was po'd about something.I talked to my service man and he didn't even know about the change. He said no one had told him so he was telling me what I had.It will be interesting to see what happens next flock.
