HEBREWS 12:1-3
Life is not about us. Are you surprised? The Bible reveals that life is all about Jesus Christ. It’s Jesus whose coming was prophesied in the Old Testament and to whom the Jewish sacrificial system pointed. It’s Jesus who set aside His divinity to become man and who obeyed His Father, even unto death. Jesus is the only one who provides salvation, and it is His Spirit who indwells believers. If we shift our focus about life from ourselves to Him, our circumstances will look different. When our eyes fixed on Jesus . . .
. . . we discover the depths of His love for us, a love that never desires ill for His children. No matter how unloving our situation feels, we can have hope because His love is constant and good.
. . . we learn that suffering has a place in the Christian life. Following Jesus’ example, we can respond to suffering by drawing close to God. Discouragement is replaced by greater intimacy with Him.
. . . we are reminded through the Cross that God is in control of even the worst circumstances, and He uses them to accomplish His purposes. With eyes of faith, we can watchfully wait for God to work, even where we are.
. . . reaching out to others during our trial becomes possible. While being crucified, Jesus demonstrated care and concern to His mother and to the thief. We have within us His Spirit, who will enable us to do the same.
Because life is about Jesus and we belong to Him, we are able to live above our circumstances. —CW
