to know!

What do you do to relax? DH says I'm way too stressed out for no good reason. He's probably right and that's taking it's toll on my diet and my self-esteem.

Boss is driving me over the edge and making me so jumpy that I keep making dumb mistakes. Which of course makes me head for the Ho-Ho's in the vending machine. How do you all deal with stress? I have to find another outlet besides eating! And I can only exercise so much in one day.

What I need is something quick that I can do at work on my breaks or whatever. Usually I can get away by myself for a few minutes if I need to so come on with the ideas ladies. I can't think anymore and my jeans can't take too many more Ho-Ho's.

Thanks for putting up with my neurotic tendencies.

Your hormones probably have a lot to do with it, and that's a very good reason. The thing that works best for me when I can't go on a shopping spree or get to the beach is to do something outside. I used to go outside my office and sit in the sun or walk around the building to chill out. At home, yardwork or sitting in the sun or in the shade of a tree and taking in all that's going on around me helps.

There are more negative ions, which combat stress and depression, in the air at the ocean and up in the mountains, so there's a scientific reason why people tend to feel relaxed and refreshed there.

Hope you're feeling less stressed soon.

The first thing that came to mind was that I grab food when I'm stressed!!!Good grief, I'm no help.I guess I try to get away for awhile;maybe call a friend to do something or go uptown awhile.

I'm trying to learn some yoga poses and to do some breathing exercises.

Your question makes me realize I need to come up with better ways to handle stress.

One thing I do if I'm stressing out over what all I eat is just let it go. I give myself a few days to eat what I want and not think about it.It usually helps me get back on track.I think by making a food off limits I just want it more.

Well...my answer may sound cliche but, here goes. I like to take a few minutes to pray, give it to God and then let go of it. Then I go get the hohos...lol. No, really. I find that I can depend on God for anything. Nothing is too big or too small for Him to handle.

You know what, Booty, I was thinking about this for awhile, today. I have the same deal - I have gotten so stressed out at work (during moments) as we are going thru a major conversion with our Realtors & I have reached for the Hershey miniatures way too often. I am going to have to bring a set of handweights up here & place them on my desk (along with one of those stress balls you squeeze) to take it out on when I feel that way. Also, I do really well when I have lots of sugar-free gum around.

(Phyllis' idea of giving it over to God is great, too, of course.) Hope things get better!

Kat,

If I had a set of handweights on my desk I think I would most likely be seen using them on someone!

Lori,

I have absolutely no advise to give you but I do know exactly how you feel! And my DH tells me the exact same thing! Walking is usually one of my best reliefs and walking the dog is usually the best-Otto loves to take his time so it actually makes me slow down too.Wish I had a better answer for you!

Hugs,

From Susan-who's in the same boat!

YOGA! No, I don't mean you have to sit in some yoga pose and say,"uummm". I've learned some very good breathing technics that you can do at anytime and anywhere. The yoga deck has some great cards and ideas. I use to get SO stressed and even hyperventilate at times till I studied yoga. Its really taught me to let go and get back to whats important...living! Also, Phyllis's idea is another I do. I just tell God I can't deal with this one and hand it over to him.

LoL...hand weights at my desk. Not a good idea. My boss would probably wind up wearing them for a hat. Although I had toyed with the idea of keeping a big, fluffy pillow under my desk to scream in from time to time. I'd probably just try to asphyxiate the poor man.

I keep gum in my desk too. It helps until my jaw starts aching from all the chewing. I think I may go back to taking a quick lap around the building on my breaks. It's only about 1/2 a mile, but that's better than nothing. And it's hard to eat Ho-ho's when you're power walking...LoL.

Aw, Susan! You don't give yourself enough credit. That may be the best advice I've gotten today. Slow down. I keep trying to do so much at once that I get overwhelmed when just one more little thing gets added. I think those bears might get walked more than they like...LoL. Thanks.

I think it's great that you have a strong faith to lean on when you feel you need it. I have many friends at work that are devoutly religious and it gives them comfort and strength. I don't share that faith...or any other really. I am a scientist pure and simple and that leads me to question the reality and/or existance of God. I don't deny that He is a possibility. A remote possibility. I'm just not convinced. And I think I'll leave this discussion right there.

Ok, so now you all can shun me for the heathen, Godless atheist that I am.
