I went with flannel sheets but only cause "cute sweaters" wasn't an option.

Phyllis! It's so hard to choose between your choices. I picked the flannel sheets because I found myself thinking about them just the other day. I'm looking forward to my trip up to LL Bean next month. I love their flannel sheets and look forward to exploring some of their other snuggly bed linens.

I'd love to say reading by the fire but as I don't have a fireplace that would be difficult! Just as I enjoy the change of all the seasons I enjoy the different types of cooking. I love the smells of things roasting in the oven or simmering on top of the stove when there's a chill in the air or on a cold winter day.

I was looking for "jewel-toned and richly textured clothes". The food choice was a fallback, for a change.

If I ever put flannel sheets on the bed, DH would sleep outside on the lawn - he kicks the blankets off on the coldest nights, while I just pile them on.

I must admit I love the colder weather clothes even though I hate the weather -- fabrics, styles, and most of all sweaters and jackets. Ralph Lauren always does such a great job on the colder weather clothes.

I keep flashing back to two specific pieces of clothing I purchased that have long since gone to that great wool pile in the sky.

One was a malachite green cashmere dress and the other was a Missoni knit sweater made of the most incredible combination and colors of blue, red, and purple yarns like I'd never seen. Found them end of season in Filene's Basement - couldn't believe they were still available in my size and that no one had scooped them. I wore them until the elbows gave way, then pushed the sleeves up for another season before they became embarrassing to wear in public. They were my best purchases ever.

There are some black-and-royal blue and some black, royal, and red Missoni pieces that have caught my eye this year. If I were still working and had a reason to wear them regularly (and contributed to paying for them), I'd grab them immediately. However, since I would wear them to a few club meetings and such and am not working, I'll have to wait till they go on sale and hope I get lucky.

I hate it when I have favorite pieces of clothing that finally wear out. Parting with them is pretty emotional. I keep telling myself I have GOT to go through my closets and get rid of clothes and shoes I never wear anymore.

I also love getting a new pair of flannel pajamas each year.
