I really had two favorites. Our fireplace is beautiful in this new house. Large Field Stone. We used it so much last winter, so I am sure we will again. But cooking Sunday meals is a biggie for my family too. Most Sundays my kids stay home or come home for dinner which includes a roast, with lots of side dishes, and a great yummy dessert.

I had to go with Soups and Stews simmering, just because cozy sweaters wasn't on the list. I love to wear sweaters, and my nice big soft ones are my favorites. Unfortunately, I can't wear them until it gets cold, so I had to go with my next favorite. Well, maybe cold, crisp air has to be right up there too.......

Baking is a good one too. Not only do you get all those pies Patty loves and other goodies, but it helps warm the house and makes good smells that make holiday and other memories!

I enjoy our fireplace, it's brick with a raised hearth, but I'd rather not need it. ;-)

My absolute favorite thing in our house is the fireplace. I love to curl up in the loveseat with a big, fat book and a cup of tea on the nights when I can talk Joe into building a fire, especially on days when we're snowed in and everyone is safe at home.

I hate to be a party pooper, but winter is my least favorite time of the year. In SD we can have some nasty winters. Many days I head to work in the dark and get home in the dark. One thing I truly enjoy in winter is a hot steamy bath. Nothing beats a good warm soak at the end of a cold day! Flannel sheets would be nice but DH is very warm blooded and sleeps with just a light covering even in the deepest part of winter! While my side of the bed is layered with blankets! DonnaL

I'm with you, Donna! I tend to hibernate during the winter and will take the long hot days of summer any time!

The Southern version:

Wearing sweaters & jeans

Brief reprieve from mowing your lawn

Turning off your air conditioner

Winter barbecues

Backyard croquet on Christmas day

Tailgating to football games

Buffalo wings

LOL! Seriously, it gets cold enough to run the heater, enjoy a fire and cook soups, but snow doesn't stick around, and DH and I still kick off our covers in winter.

My winter thing is a combination of two choices. I selected "Reading by the fire" though I don't read by the fire (having a 4-1/2 yo kid barely allows 20 minutes of reading time). What I really like is eating a bowl of chili by the fire while watching a football game - with kid interruptions these days, of course!

More than any winter sign, the colors of fall are my favorite seasonal thing.

I'm not a huge fan of winter, either. I get terribly cold and don't enjoy winter sports at all. We usually have to shovel snow and have trouble getting places because of the gravel roads being blown shut in bad years. We've had 'open winters' though, for several years. That makes traveling easier but it's still cold.

I do like the fact that we have more 'together time'. DH is in for supper with me and we eat at a reasonable time. And the work load really does let up during the winter for us. We work normal hours then. Not sunup to sundown.

I like the fact that we also have a bit of a social life again, too. We do fun neighborhood things and go places. Again, not working all the time.

But, I do not like the cold!!!! Maybe I should convince DH to move a bit south with me and take up a different occupation......nah...he'd probably say no anyway.

I often think that I live about 1000 miles too far north in the wintertime. I long for a nice warm beach in the winter...In fact I long for a beach year around! LOL

Even in Florida, I feel too far north in the winter time. I'd be very happy at a beach year-round, so we have that in common.
