Anybody watch the Miami-Florida game

last night? I can't get excited about either team, and usually I pull for the underdog, but since the college teams I like are in the SEC, the Gators give my teams fits, and they are announcer favorites (I get tired of hearing about their perfection), I had to pull for Miami. I thought it was a done game after the 3rd Quarter started... but boy, I'm glad I stayed with it through that quarter. What an exciting game to see Miami come back like that! I didn't stay up for the finish, but I saw the three quick touchdowns and thought they had a good chance of winning. I know there are some Gator fans here, so I'll just say I guess even 'gators have to take cover when hurricanes blow in....

Yes, I'm an avid Gator fan. What a roller coaster ride the game was. All I've read down here is how much talent Miami has and how little the Gators have this year along with their 2nd year coach Ron Zook. He's no Steve Spurrier, that's for sure. I was pleasantly surprised at how the Gators manhandled the 'Canes in the first half, but really disappointed at how they blew their lead. I blame that on the plays the coaches called (some very questionable)and the defense tiring out. This is definitely a rebuilding year, but the rest of the SEC had still better watch out! ;-)

PS -- 'Canes were ranked 3rd; Gators 18th.

Our Vols play Florida in two weeks - at the Swamp. If you think Florida is going to have a bumpy year, Tennessee is definitely not up to snuff!

Spurrier...don't get me started ;^). Neighborhood kids who act like Spurrier does are known as brats! It was appalling to watch Spurrier's lack of self-control when plays got botched (let alone when his team lost). Dozens of college coaches set much better examples for the boys they're coaching. When it was known Spurrier was seeking a coaching job with the NFL, there were rumors that he was going to go with the Panthers. Thank goodness he went with the Redskins instead. It would've been difficult to route for my Panthers with the cameras going to the sidelines every 3 minutes to tape Spurrier's reactions. (And Panther fans are happy with John Fox's work in turning our team around.) It was rather interesting watching Spurrier in the NFL last year. His efforts to stuff an NFL team with Florida grads didn't work. I do believe he'll eventually be an overall winning coach in the NFL because his coaching skills are no doubt worthy, but I don't think he'll be the demigod he was in college football. NFL football is much more fickle, what with free agency, salary caps, the draft (thousands of college players competing for 1700 jobs), and all that.

Our home team, South Carolina, pounded Virginia 31-7 yesterday. Virginia was ranked #15, South Carolina isn't ranked. ;^)

Whether you love him or hate him, Spurrier makes football interesting. He's a genius on offense (even his detractors have to admit that), and it's amazing how many teams I see now copying plays he came up with. Yes, he's emotional. He's a perfectionist. I'd take him back at Florida in a heartbeat!! Luckily, I was born in DC, so I feel he's still my coach. Friends and family up there say he's generated interest in the Redskins that they haven't seen in years. I wish all the Gator players had worked out, but my husband said he heard Spurrier let the last of them go after pre-season. Can't blame a guy for trying. They were good enough to win a national championship, so I guess he wanted to see what they could do in the NFL. It'll take time to rebuild the 'Skins, but they won this week, so that's a start.
