I was asleep, so I didn't see it. I'm interested to hear what those who did see it have to say.

Rhonda-

I took a lot of notes and planned on summarizing it for the next newsletter (Fitness Facts from Phyllis)I send out for my clients. I'll probably post it as well.

I didn't get to watch it but would love to hear what others thought of it.There was an interesting article somewhere about whether people would take Dr Phil seriously since he doesn't look like your usual fitness instructor. Letterman did a funny top 10 on the subject the other night.

I caught the first hour and a few minutes into the second while I was working out. I did find it useful. He made no professions about being a nutrition expert. He spoke a bit about some of the obesity in his family and how he's been dealing with the problem for more than 30 years in his family and in his practice. His focus was on how one's own thinking bears a lot on how one approaches weight loss. The first hour of the program definitely focused on how one's mental attitude toward weight management sets the stage for success or failure.

They had a couple of people on who talked about their past failures and how their very health depends on serious weight loss and management. They had a nutritionist talk about how difficult it is for people to re-educate themselves and retrain their palates to enjoy and feel satisfied by different (healthier) foods than they have been eating. They apprached several people in a mall foodcourt and talked about their food choices and how they could be better. They also used a little food fact quiz to lead in after each commercial break. For example, if you add one 290-calorie donut into your diet each day, how many pounds would you gain in a year - 10, 20 or 30? The answer, frighteningly enough, was 30 lb. If that's not enough to send you fleeing from the Krispy Kremes, I don't know what is.

I wish I had been able to stay awake for the 2nd half; I crashed immediately after my post-workout shower - I don't even remember brushing my teeth (but I did). I hope it didn't end up as a plug for his food line.

So, I can't answer the survey for two reasons - didn't see the whole show, and there was some useful new stuff in the part I saw.

I'm going to check out the cost of a video of this program. The format was well-done, especially the live part from South Street Seaport at the end of the first half.
