. . . to all you great women who are cheering me on! Quitting smoking is a big deal, but although my family were relieved, they don't exactly offer acknowledgement anymore, I guess they are used to a non-smoking wife and mother. So, THANKS! I cried for two days before I actually quit, as it was like losing a best friend and although I have no intention of going back, I still think about it many times during the day. I guess 30 years of such an ingrained habit will take more time to get over.

I am through with diets, as I want to a healthy variety of foods to eat and allow myself a weekly treat. Getting used to exercise is a challenge though, as I don't really like the huffing/puffing/sweating aspect, but I guess it's just one of those things that mature people do -- you don't have to like something that's good for you! Dr. Phil and Katie Couric had a special on Friday night, and that statement stuck in my mind the most out of anything he said, so while riding the subway this morning, I didn't give myself a choice on whether or not to go to the gym and just picked up my workout clothes from my office and went.

I hope you will accept me to this community, and I am really excited about getting excited about getting into shape!

Deb we already said your are welcome, silly. Glad to hear you grabed your workout clothes and are going to do it. Take it slow, as they told me.......if you do too much you might feel overwhelmed. Heck some of these wonderful gals workout for over an hour a day. Not me, I am huffing and puffing after the 30 minute mark and I am pushing it to the 45 mark. You will get there, and you need to be proud of yourself. If your family won't pat you on the back anymore, we will. Because we all understand. Can not wait to hear more from you!

Of course you're accepted! Welcome to the board, Debbie. My name is Lori and I've been MIA for a while following some surgery. As a fellow ex-smoker, I can totally relate to the feeling of losing your best friend when you quit. It was very hard and I still think about it mostly because DH still smokes. But it was the best thing I ever did for my own health. So congratulations! What a huge success!

I also gained weight when I quit. I gained about 60 pounds, give or take and I've been giving and taking ever since. I've had some success with weight loss plans or 'diets' but they aren't realistic for me. I just have to buckle down and do it like Dr. Phil says.

Welcome again. We're a bunch of loonies sometimes, but it's all good.

Thanks, Lori, glad to hear another another ex-smoker can relate to that feeling of having lost a best-friend! I know it sounds a little crazy to those who never smoked. I think I will really like this board and intend to post alot, as soon as my home computer gets fixed. I have been surfing at work, a big no-no! I saw the Dr. Phil special last Friday and I like his no-nonsense approach too, hence the reason I am here. See you around the board,

Deb, great job on grabbing your workout clothes and heading to the gym! That is a big step. Keep it up long enough and it will become a habit. Keep posting. The gals here are great!! Nancy
