That is an interesting question. If I had the money and the room I would love to set up a workout gym, but have a personal trainer come to me several days a week. But I miss people so going to the gym would be nice too.
Neither is an issue right now (knock wood), and I've done both types - I'll stick with home. Convenient, I can do it whenever I want to (important for those nights when I get home from work really late), and I don't have to wait for other users to finish their routines. We were able to invest some bucks in gym-level equipment a while back and have it maintained for a small fee by the outfit we purchased it from. I don't know what will happen when/if we have to replace any of it, but I'm not going to think about that now. It's only about 3 years old, and it's not being beaten up with use 12-16 hours a day, nor is it serving as clothes hangers. It's been well worth it.
I had to think about this one... I was going to say "gym - because of the wide variety of equipment and availability of a trainer", but then I remembered why I stopped going to the community center about 7 miles away with a small good variety of equipment, an on-premises trainer and was only $50 a year: I had to get in my car and go somewhere before I could even start. I don't always want to get out on the road. When I'm at home, I can start whenever I want at that moment and not have to fight traffic to get to my destination.
So if time or money weren't an object, I'd get a BowFlex and continue working out at home.
I prefer a home gym. First of all, I live far from anyplace that has a gym so I haven't really had a normal gym experience. The time I joined, I had to drive to get there and the hours it was open were very limited. Not practical at all.
Secondly, I can exercise whenever I want at home. It only takes the time to workout...no travel time at all. And I don't have to wait for the equipment.
Gosh, I'm torn between the two! I would love a home gym but I would miss my friends at Jazzercise and I'd love to have access to a swimming pool on a regular basis. So, if money and time truly are no object, I'd say both!
If money wasn't an issue I'd buy ongoing sessions with a personal trainer at the studio where it's just me, the trainer, and the whole fitness studio--no one else! Love that. I get more out of those sessions than anything else.
I belong to a gym and haven't been for a very long time. We only have one in town and it's gross! SO glad I have Jazzercise.
