I know that several of you gals are from the east coast. Are any of you in hurricane Isabel's path? I've sure been thinking about all of you and wondering what is happening out there? Can you tell me how you're doing? Nancy

I'm pretty much going crazy!!I'm waiting for Flo and Isabel!!!LOL We're concerned about the crops and the chickens. One report had the eye of the storm going thru our valley. One report said the valley would take the same hit as the coastline. Not sure what any of that really means.Right now it's the waiting that's so hard.Knowing something is coming but not sure what.

Living on Long Island, we are being warned to watch out for the effects of Isabel. The worrisome part is that it could still veer in our direction. We are prepared and luckily have a generator. We were told that if we do get hit, we could be without electricity for as long as a month. What a great electric company we have!!!

I am really worried for my son and his family in Moyock, NC. The county next to them has been evacuated and the kids aren't going to school because they live right off the evacuation route. They are staying put for now and will watch what happens.

How do you prepare your chicken houses for a storm like that? And your own house? Do you have shutters that you put on and nail shut or what do you do? I've never lived anywhere that there were hurricanes. Nancy

Oh my, how very scary for you Grace. I hope that things will be okay for them. I suppose if the hurricane goes thru there, you won't be able to communicate for some time, either because the phone lines will go down. Good luck to you. Nancy

There's really no way to prepare the chicken houses. The fans in the houses have blow away shutters and that will be a big concern..What I'm planning on doing is cutting back on the ones I use and tying the others down.I have a concern about water in one house but hopefully that will not happen.I'm kind of worried about the feed tanks being blown down but they just brought some feed out and that will help there.Good grief, I hadn't even gotten around to worrying about my own house yet!!! :) That should be fine. It's strange up town.Stores are selling out of things and there is an air of nervousness. Some school systems are already planning to close tomorrow. We rarely have this concern in this area but every once in awhile a storm makes it way across the mountains.I think one of the worst things about this storm is that the worst of it will hit us during the night and that just makes it seem more threatening.

Well, batten down them chicken houses! I swear, I wouldn't be able to sleep knowing that a storm of this magnitude was on its way. I saw a projection on the news today that set the path of the storm right through NC and VA up into Canada. Hopefully it will lose some of its momentum and fury before it does too much damage. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

And they're not evacuated? I dunno. I would be tempted to grab the family and head for the high ground...I suppose he already has thought of that though. Hope they do OK.

Lucky you have that generator. It's a pain when the power goes out here at the kennel. No back up generator. Usually does it when it's colder than physically possible outside. Now you know why I have two big dogs.

Grace, I've really been thinking about the LI people because I've heard that area mentioned on the news.I know you must be so worried about your son and family, I'll keep them all in my thoughts.
