Interesting Remedies

Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost

immediately-without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional pain

relievers.

Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns.

Before you head to he drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with

mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids

peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 Tablespoon of horseradish in

cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a

massage oil, for instant relief for aching muscles.

Sore Throat?? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1

Tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.

Cure urinary tract infections with alka-seltzer. Just dissolve two tablets

in a glass of water and drink! it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer

begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly-even though the

product was never been advertised for this use.

Eliminate puffiness under your eyes.....All you need is a dab of preparation

H, carefully rubbed into the skin, avoiding the eyes. The hemorrhoid

ointment acts as a vasoconstrictor, relieving the swelling instantly.

Honey remedy for Skin Blemishes.. Cover the blemish with a dab of honey and

place a Band-Aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile,

and speeds healing. Works overnight.

Listerine therapy for toenail fungus....Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus

by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves

your toenails looking healthy again.

Easy eyeglass protection....To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from

loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear nail! Polish to

the threads of the screws before tightening them.

Coca-Cola cure for rust...Forget those expensive rust removers. Just

saturate an abrasive sponge with Coca Cola and scrub the rust stain. The

phosphoric acid in the coke is what gets the job done.

Cleaning liquid that doubles as bug killer....If menacing bees, wasps,

hornets, or yellow jackets get in your home and you can't find the

insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409. Insects drop to the ground

instantly.

Smart splinter remover.....just pour a drop of Elmer's Glue-all over the

splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks

to the dried glue.

Hunt's tomato paste boil cure....Cover the boil with Hunt's tomato paste as

a compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil

to a head.

Balm for broken blisters.....To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few

drops of Listerine....a powerful antiseptic.

Heinz vinegar to heal bruises...! Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and

apply it to the bruise for 1 hour. The vinegar reduces the blueness and

speeds up the healing process. (wonder if this works on hickeys?)

Kills fleas instantly. Dawn dishwashing liquid does the trick. Add a few

drops to your dog's bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to

avoid skin irritations. Good-bye fleas.

Rainy day cure for dog odor....Next time your dog comes in from the rain,

simply wipe down the animal with Bounce or any dryer sheet, instantly making

your dog smell springtime fresh.

Eliminate ear mites....All it takes is a few drops of Wesson corn oil in

your cat's ear. Massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily

for 3 days. The oil soothes the cat's skin, smothers the mites, and

accelerates healing.

Vaseline cure for hairballs.....To prevent troublesome hairballs, apply a

dollop of Vaseline petroleum jelly to your cat's nose. The cat will lick off

the jelly, lubricating any hair in its stomach so it can pass easily through

the digestive system.

Quaker Oats for fast pain relief....It's not for breakfast anymore! Mix 2

cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave

for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for

soothing relief from arthritis pain.

About the same thing it does for rust. The book I've been reading, "The Acid Alkaline Balance Diet" says that soft drinks, and colas in particular, are one of the worst things you can put in your body. I almost never have one anymore.

I've actually tried the vaseline/hairball thing and it does work. Now I'm wondering if I would actually be able to get near my dogs with a dryer sheet. Spike throws a royal fit whenever anything good smelling gets used in the house. Must be too much for his nose.

Same thing fruits like oranges, cherries, apples, blueberries and a host of others do. They have about the same acid content as sodas. That sodas are manufactured rather than picked off trees and have no other nutritional value make 'em an easy target, though the phosphoric acid does hinder the absorption of calcium. BTW, you can get the same bubbling effect for rust removal by mixing baking soda and vinegar, two pantry staples.

No doubt that water is better for you as far as hydration and lack of additives goes.

These are interesting. I'll have to try the Gatorade sometime, even though I don't care for the taste too well. 409 as a wasp killer is also interesting, but I'd want to be standing further back from the offending insect!

There's NO comparison between acidic foods and soft drinks -- huge difference! This may be long, but here are some quotes from "The Acid Alkaline Balance Diet" to help explain:

Page 8 --

..."First, there is a difference of opinion as to which foods are acid forming and which are alkaline forming. For example, bananas, avocados, asparagus, artichokes, and spinach are considered by Zen Buddhists to be acid producing, while Western scientists believe them to be alkaline because, when burned, they leave mostly alkaline ashes. Second, the fact is that many acid-forming vegetables are very effective cleansers of the body's acidic wastes. The juice of carrots and beets, with their high percentage of acid-forming sulphur and phosphorus, effectively clean out the acidic wastes from the liver, kidneys, and bladder. The juice of cabbage, high in acidic chlorine and sulfur, cleanses the acid wastes adhering to the mucous membranes of the stomach and intestinal tract. An excellent remedy for gum disease and infections in general is the highly acidic vitamin C. Alkaline minerals are also effective cleansers. Potassium, calcium, sodium, and magnesium in dandelions, endive, and lettuce reduce hyperacidity in all the organs of the body. Indeed, acid and alkaline minerals act together to cleanse the body, just as a combined solution of vinegar (acid) and bicarbonate of soda (alkaline) makes an excellent household cleaner."

From "Reverse Aging" --

Pp. 21 & 22

"All kinds of soft drinks are very acidic, especially colas. In order to neutralize a glass of cola, it takes about 32 glasses of high pH alkaline water."

P. 43

"The process of maintaining the blood pH values to within a narrow range of 7.3 to 7.45 is much more complicated.

As I mentioned in Chapter 2, a glass of cola with its high pH value of 2.5 can change 10 gallons of water with a pH value of 7.4 into water with a 4.6 pH. As we drink highly acidic drinks or as we exercise, the blood becomes acidic instantaneously. The body must act quickly to restore the pH values back to the safe range."

Pp. 55 & 56

Blood Pressure and Sugar

"For people with hypertension, doctors advise them not to eat too much fatty food, to cut out meat, to eliminate sugar, and to stop smoking. They should add "cut out soft drinks" to that list. The riddle is: What are the commonalities of all these things? The answer is that they all rob your body of oxygen. Smoking not only reduces the available oxygen from your body but the nicotine has the effect of narrowing capillary vessels. We know by now that all of the acidic foods (i. e. ones that leave acidic wastes) and drinks lower your blood oxygen level. But what about sugar?

Sugar grabs oyxgen with the highest priority. Mr Gregory Grosbard of Miami, FL received a U.S. patent on improving plastic strength by using sugar. Each time plastic material goes through a heat cycle it loses strength, because oxygen in the atmosphere goes into the material under heat, creating oxygen "holes." As Mr. Grosbard mixed a small amount of sugar into the plastic material during the heat cycle, the sugar grabbed the oxygen first, making the plastic stronger."

Effects of Soft Drinks

"Soft drinks, especially the cola type, are highly acidic. A dentist friend of mine told me he can demonstrate the tooth decay process by submerging an extracted tooth into a glass of cola and watching it decay."

"Soft drinks are slow killers. It would be an interesting experiment to test the effects of alkaline water and soft drinks on laboratory mice. If we had three groups of mice evenly grouped as to their age and health condition and we gave one group of mice only cola type drinks; the second, distilled water; and the third, alkaline water, what would be the outcome? We can all guess as to which group would live the longest and which group would end up with the shortest lives.

Lately we have been alarmed by the incidence of younger people being hit by the so-called adult onset diseases which used to converge mainly on the 40-plus age group. I wouldn't be surprised if the frequency of these incidents are paralleled by the success and the growth of many of the soft drink companies.

The acidity of some soft drinks is caused by carbon dioxide, which is not so bad because we can eventually breath it out. But some soft drinks are highly acidic even after the carbon dioxide is all fizzled out. Perhaps the consumer advocates group should demand the acidity of the drinks to be clearly indicated on the labels of these soft drinks."

P. 115

"What I am telling the world is to drink alkaline water in order to wash out acidic wastes, the universal cause of many adult diseases. I am also telling the world to stay away from soft drinks, especially colas because they are acidic."

Well, that's probably more than anyone wanted to know on the subject, but I just wanted to give backup information for my statements.

i have both of the books that you quoted. Barely started on Reverse Aging and just picked up the Acid Alkaline Balance today. Other than working tomorrow, I don't plan to venture too far from the sofa on Saturday night and Sunday....all day long!
