to me that we haven't talked about our "Girls' Weekend Out" for next October in a while. The middle of the month weekend is Oct. 15th through 17th, so we'd need reservations for the 16th and 17th (Fri. and Sat. and would probably leave on Sun. some time) unless we could stay until Monday. We won't have a lot of time to do things with travel time considerations. Anyway, I'm thinking we need to get a rough count of how many rooms we need and make the reservations. It's much easier to cancel unneeded rooms than to try to get rooms that are already booked.

If you think you have even a slight chance of going, go ahead and count yourself in, so we can get a maximum room number needed and guarantee a place while we can. These places sometimes book up a year in advance for the fall color season. Also, it would be nice to lock in the current low rates. A credit card is needed to guarantee it, but they don't actually process it until you check out. At that time, the individual rooms could be charged to individual accounts or however anyone wants to pay. I'm hoping we might be able to get a quantity discount.

What do you guys think?

I'm in. I don't have a problem with making a reservation now.

I'm planning on traveling Friday and Monday. Are we saying then, that it will definitely be October 15-17?

I would like to do the same thing travel-wise. There were a lot of good reasonably priced hotels listed, so I'm pretty flexible about that. I could go back and look again to see if any of them stand out more than the others. Does anyone have a preference for a particular company hotel? We could also contact Biltmore House and any other attractions/activities to see if they require reservations, and if so, can reservations be made in advance.

Biltmore House is really extensive. I was looking over an old visitors' guide that I have. They recommend arriving in the morning and taking 2-3 hours to see the house, having lunch at the cafe or restaurant on the grounds, and then using the afternoon to tour the huge gardens and winery. There's also an additional behind the scenes tour to see restoration in progress for an extra charge, if anyone is interested in that. It may be that we just want to see the house and gardens or something like that if using an entire day is too much. There is a LOT of walking involved, so it will be a workout of sorts. There is an elevator, but there are up to 350 steps to climb in the regular and behind the scenes tours. Tickets to the house and grounds are probably $25. to $30. This was from back in 1991, and it was only $20. then. I'm sure it says on the website.

Those dates are my suggestion just from years past when I've been. I'd say the middle to third weekend is usually the peak leaf season there. We could make it the following weekend if that works out better for most people.
