I think Asheville must not be a well traveled airport. Every flight from JFK, LaGuardia or Macarthur had me flying past or around NC and then back making an 1hr 45 min flight into a 5 to 7 hour flight. The only direct flight out is from Newark NJ. Maybe a LI person would like to hitch up for a good long drive!

It is a smaller city, so the air travel there is pretty indirect. One route had me going from Jacksonville, FL to Cincinnati to Atlanta, and then to Asheville/Hendersonville airport! It would have been almost all day covering about 1/3 of the country!!! I can get a cheaper rate if I drove farther away to Orlando and left from there ($90. less, but about 5 hrs. extra driving time round trip and gas), so I'm thinking it's not worth going down there.

Phyllis,

It may be worth a look to land at RDU - Raleigh Durham International Airport and drive into Ashville which is about 4-5 hour drive.
