New Bedroom Furniture

Finally started getting deliveries of our new furniture. Had hoped to coordinate everything for a single-day delivery, but we all know we make plans, but God laughs.

The two new bureaus are in, as are the new queen-size mattress and foundation. The matching nightstands aren't due to ship for another 2 weeks. I forgot how much I like the new pieces - you definitely know that this is a man's bedroom also; not a frill or frouffy thing in there. Very soothing, though.

I ended up cancelling the headboard I had originally ordered - the company went Chapter 7, no new stock was being shipped, and I decided that the money they were asking was just too much for the floor model even with the selloff. So I found an upholstered headboard that I like even better - from Restoration Hardware, surprisingly enough (it's 66 inches tall, rather than 45) - ordered that and a frame today, and those are supposed to be in in 2-3 weeks. Meanwhile, the mattress and foundation are propped up against the wall in my living room. They provide a modicum of privacy, as they are big enough to block a window in there!

Anybody want to take bets that I'm still waiting for furniture at Halloween?

After dealing with furniture shipments for years, I wouldn't bet against you. I don't want to lose my money. Glad you've gotten as much as you have so far.

I was married 12 1/2 years (the first time) before I could get what I want, and I plan to have it forever. It was worth the wait.

Donna, I hope you get the rest of yours soon, so you can set it up and enjoy it! Keep us posted on the progress.

Hi Donna,

So glad you are getting your new bedroom furniture. It will be so nice to get it before the winter arrives. You can snuggle up in your new retreat with the upcoming cold months. Now you have GOT to get that camera out when you get it all together and show us your new bedroom.

Not to one-up you or anything, but the newest things in DH's and my bedroom were our nightstands - about 1992. The bureaus were from our childhood sets and the bed was from the mid-eighties. Can you spell "dated"??

I certainly agree that waiting until you're moved into you last or next-to-last assignment makes more sense. Unless you move yourself, you're at the packers'/movers' mercy. As the delivery men were coming in with the stuff I practically bit my tongue off, but they didn't bump into anything.

After almost 21 years of marriage, we thought it was about time to have a grown-up bedroom. Plus, I wanted to go to Hawaii this fall, but after seeing the anticipated total cost for that, DH was more than happy to agree to the new furniture....

Wanna laugh? Got a call from the store - the nightstands are coming next Friday... DH is on duty for that delivery because I'm running out of vacation time.

If you had bet against me, you would have won - what exactly, I don't know, but you would have won....

Kohls and Costco. Got a full set of queen size Royal Sateen taupe shadow stripe and Ralph Lauren solid red at Costco for less than $50 each - 300 thread count. Kohl's Sonoma line is good, too.

Only problem with the great cottons is they wrinkle so much in the dryer, and I'm just not a sheet-ironer.

Hate to keep going back to it, but QVC's Northern Nights line and a couple of others are good deals when they're the day's special values. They range from 300 to 400 thread counts and look like silk on camera. Good for a bit of a splurge.

Sorry my inspiration is causing you to spend $$$. Isn't that always the way?

I've been looking at Northern Nights. I really love QVC.I haven't changed our bedroom in years so maybe it's time for a splurge.I'll just have to sell a couple extra chickens :)
