Hi

I am helping my 50 yr old mum write a fitness programme. She has just started dieting, and would like to lose some weight and tone up.

She doesn't like running, can't do high impact stuff, is very busy.

I have fitball pilates, pilates, and yoga DVD's. I was thinking about trying to write a programme for her using these and combining them with a daily half-hour walk.

Do you know how often you should do pilates? Does anyone have any idea how to write a programme that could help me.....?

I was thinking about perhaps getting her into aqua aerobics, what are your opinions on that?

any advice would be extremely helpful

Thanks

My first thought is...what does she like to do?

Most Pilates experts say that 3X weekly is ideal, but you can do it more or less and get results. It doesn't hurt to do it daily if you're that motivated and have the time. The important thing is proper form and breathing.

I LOVE aqua aerobics, but then I like almost anything in water. I like the fact that you can get a good workout without sweating because you're in water. Also, movement in water is very soothing.

Good luck in writing your program for your mother. That's so sweet of you. And, good luck to her in carrying it out. I agree that the best program is one she'll do.
