Although I don't think his comment was racially motivated, I do think it was racially insensitive.

I think it is ridiculous that in the year 2003, race is still an issue, period. I don't care what your race is, race should not be an issue. I am saddened and angry that it still is.

I think it's sad that in 2003 only a select few have freedom of speech. If this situation had been reversed, it would have been a non-issue, just as some other comments that were made have been ignored. What should be good for one person (regardless of race, creed, or color), should be good for all. It's a shame that one can't express an opinion that was based on the handling of a situation by the media rather than on the athlete was turned into supposedly a racial incident. I may not agree with someone's opinion, but I will certainly defend his First Amendment right to express it.

Have you seen the horribly disgusting song that a liberal disc jockey made-up and aired about Condoleeza Rice, a black woman in high office, over and over?? I guess because he was a liberal and she's a Republican it was swept under the rug, but I can tell you if a Republican had made the same kind of insulting remarks about a black politician, muchless a black woman politician, they'd have had his job and his head! I am really tired of reverse discrimination. Sorry, but I believe very strongly in First Amendment rights and that EVERYONE should be color blind.

IMHO

It's about time someone put that loudmouth Limbaugh in his place. That guy burns my shorts to bits. Yes, I'm a liberal. Yes, I vote Democrat. No, that does not make me sub-human in spite of what he says. The fact is that he DOES know better than to say a thing like that in public, much less on the air. The forum was not appropriate for his comments.

I too believe in free speech. I respect his and everyone's right to speak their mind. I don't expect the world to not be offended when he or anyone else does so. I do think that in the 21st century society we have, race should no longer be an issue. However, it is clear that for some of us, race is an issue. In spite of his right to free speech, I really think that he could have voiced his opinions in a more tasteful manner. He really just went too far.

Clearly, the football player in question was not offended. I've seen his response several times on TV and I believe what he says. As for his resignation...I don't know who's idea that was...his or his employer's. It doesn't matter. If I made a public statement of a similar nature about someone in the industry that buys my groceries, I would expect some backlash. I am all for controversy. It keeps us on our toes and generates new ideas and views.

And, when do the loudmouth, hatemongers such as Al Sharpton, Louis Farakan, and Jesse Jackson get shut up? Apparently, it's OK for some people to be racist loudmouths as long as they aren't white Republicans. In fact, Jackson has become a billionaire (with a B) doing it. That fat cat's high living has caught up with him to the point that he's having to hide his girth with what appear to be maternity shirts. It's a shame he isn't more concerned about his people instead of #1 (and his mistress and illegitimate child) and would have followed the example of a truly caring and conciliatory pastor, such as Rev. Martin Luther King. Hypocrisy and double standards are what "burn my shorts!"

PS -- And, black Republicans aren't supposed to voice their opinions either.

Hi,

I just popped in to check out this message board because I've been on kind of a fitness kick lately and thought a little support might come in handy. However, after reading a few discussions I think I'll pass on this one. But I feel so compelled to comment just this once--Mr. Limbaugh's remarks are strictly to made to draw ratings (as are all of his remarks!), whether he believes in them or not. Sports is all about big money, ladies. High ratings get the advertising dollars that ESPN wants. I guess all the hoopla got a little too negative, however, and he had to resign (by choice or otherwise--who knows at this point?).

I think it's unfortunate to find such discussions on a board like this--it's a turnoff for those of us who just want to lose weight without politics. I'm surprised the board monitor allows it. I'm sure the iVillage advertisers wouldn't be pleased to know that potential customers are being turned off. Afterall, that's what iVillage is about, too. Making money.

Geez,

Oh for pete's sakes!!The conversation was started by our CL and was carried on by a group of mature intelligent women who can express their opinions and allow others to do so.If you knew anything about this board then you would know it's a tight group that talks about anything and everything. We agree and we disagree. We share our ups and downs. We call it being friends. Some of us join in on the conversation and some of us don't.Some post about everything and some post just about exercise.I think it's unfortunate that someone who doesn't know us feels it necessary to post such a negative thing about the board.

There are so many other boards on iVillage that are very cut and dry which stick only to the title topic and that deal with weight loss, I feel certain you can find one to your liking. As for me, this is the greatest board I've ever had the pleasure to be a part of, and I'll take it over any of the others any day. Because we care and share everything with each other, we've formed a much stronger bond than you'll find on probably most, if any, of the other boards. If you had been a long term member, you might have actually enjoyed being able to participate in the topic and share your opinion, unless you just don't like to hear opinions that are different from your own. We happen to think it makes life interesting. Next October we'll be traveling from all over the United States to meet for a weekend of bonding and merriment. How many other boards do you know whose members would do that? There must be something to this, afterall...

We're not a weight loss board, per se. We are mature women interested in improving our level of fitness (mental, physical, and spiritual). Sometimes that includes losing weight too, but that is not our primary goal. I'm sorry you don't want to stick around and find out what we're really like. It truly is your loss.

Rhonda
