I don't know if I'm going to whine or just chew myself out here.

You're not whining, you're expressing something many if not most of us can relate to. I do great and then my hormones shift and it's awful.I eat too much junk, I'm too lazy to exercise.I'm hoping to find some way to plan ahead for what I know will happen. But frankly once those hormone shift all logic goes out the window.

I think going to a dr is a good answer.Maybe they will be able to help.Regular pms is bad enough but I think in our 40's it takes on a life of it's own.I think a couple things I'm going to try is maybe journaling, making sure I eat more protein thru out the day and also allow myself reasonable amounts of things I want.Sometimes I have a craving and instead of having just that I eat everything else and then finally what I'm craving.

I had a conversation with a friend about this. You really do have to make choices about food.Unfortunately few of us can eat anything we want and be the size we want to be.

I don't think I've been any help but just wanted you to know I do understand.Sending you big hugs.

Nancy,

Believe me I don't view your post as whining. This is such an incredibly difficult period in a woman's life. I've been dealing with all of what you're saying even without Flo being around for the past five months. My mood alone this morning has told everyone in the house that they would be better off if they either don't talk to me to leave the premises because the simplest things are just setting me off. As soon as the mood thing kicks in so does my mouth which automatically goes into eating mode. I think it would be wise to discuss your options with a doctor. I really like having a female doctor especially one who can understand the frustrations of this time of your life.

No kicks in the butt for you only some hugs to let you know that I fully understand what you're going through. Keep up with that exercise! I find it's so easy to eat right and exercise when your mind is going in the right direction and oh so difficult when the mind isn't there with you. But I know I've found if I try to really keep my mindset focused (and I really do struggle to keep focused) it really does help me get through these rough days.

Hugs,

Susan

Nancy:

I can so relate to how you're feeling right now! This perimenopause thing is difficult to deal with. I did finally go to the doc and he gave me bcp to help regulate Flo and take the edge off the PMS and it helps. I still have the eating binges and crankiness, but not like I used to. Of course, this might not be the answer for you, but it's mine.

As for avoiding the eating binges...well...I've found that if I just go ahead and have a little of what I'm craving, it's easier to get past the binge part. There is no will power involved. I just have to decide what I'm going to do and do my best to stick to the plan. Not always easy, but then again, I am only human and can do only my best.

We are so hard on ourselves as women. Take some time for yourself Nancy. I know how busy your life is right now with harvesting and everything else. Know that this is a transition period and things will get better. Easy for me to say, huh?

Take care and don't worry about the whining...I do it all the time.

Just kidding about the donut question. Sort of.

Getting it out of your system is fine. It's helpful even. As long as you don't get bogged down in the negativity and only vent. Which you don't.

You have so much going on in your life right now! Of course Flo is going to hit you like a ton of bricks. Think of the stress hormones running rampant in your system. Working on the farm, working in town, and everything else going on!!!! You realized that it was a bad cycle, you had your craving fix and now that Flo is easing up, so will your cravings. My number 1 suggestion is that you up your water intake. I find that really, really helpful when I'm having a major craving cycle. My number 2 suggestion is to try to get in some exercise. Even if it is a 20 minute walk, or 20 minute anything. It will help, I promise.

I, too, have been in major craving mode with Flo this month. She arrived a week late, with little fan fare and is really light, but I did have some really bad binge days. Those darn donut boxes leap into your grocery basket when you're not looking. I know it is true! So you ate them and now it's time to move on and move out. You'll do it and you'll be right back on track. In the meantime, take a nice soak in the tub and veg out.

Major hugs coming your way!

Love ya

Sassy

I'm thinking making a Dr. appt is a much better idea that using the duct tape on your mouth.
