Sorry I didn't get back to you all sooner. We've just been so busy this weekend with all the excitement. Saturday we received a package from my dads cousin (the one that we found in CA). In it was pictures of his father, aunts, cousins, grandparents, etc. AND she also included doilies, and other crocheted and personnal things that belonged to my dads grandma. Some of the things are 150 years old! How wonderful, huh? Anyway, we headed over to my parents house around 1 p.m., set up the movie camera, and gave our presentation from beginning to the present. Dad was SO happy! Mom cried...along with some others ;-). They were so shocked that we could find all this info and to do it in such a short time (one month). We even had an article that was about his great grandfather and how he entered the civil war at the age of 16 and all about his life. It was wonderful! Dad was so happy to hear he was Scottish (his grandfather came over from Scotland when he was 14 years old)...dad kept saying, "I knew I was Scottish! I just knew it!" It was so cute. Anyway, our search hasn't ended yet. The cousin we are in touch with has a lawyer friend who is trying to help us track down dads three sisters. We all want so badly to find them some day. We are temporarily planning a trip to CA over Thanksgiving to meet with his cousin and other relatives. I'm so excited because my sister and I are going along! We made a toast when we were all done and then went out to eat to celebrate. At the end of the evening when I gave them a hug good-bye dad says, "This was the best present I've ever gotten". Yeah, it was the best....
Oh, Tweety, I got goosebumps just reading about it! What a treasure chest of information you got! I know you all have to be beside yourselves to get out to CA and find out more. Please keep us posted.
What a wonderful turn of events! I'm so pleased you were able to find someone in your dad's family who reached out to you. Your dad had to have had goosebumps over this. You and your sister are terrific daughters to do this for him...
That is just so awsome. I am so happy it turned out great and you are not done yet. It sounds like your dad was thrilled with what you guys did for him, something he will never forget. Great job!!!!!
