Christmas talk????

Okay there has been two posts mentioning Christmas shopping. Gosh it will be upon us before I know it. Thinking I need to simplify this too. I just do not want to spend hours trudging around to a dozen stores and settling for something just so I have a gift. I'm going to start thinking of how I can make them feel thought of without it draining me of all my energy. Now that I will not be taking my October week off I'm going to really be looking forward to my Christmas vacation.

Anyone else re-thinking their Christmas rituals?

Focus on Brock! Just keep telling yourself that. Your time, attention, and patience, given willingly (as it already is), will make a lasting impression on him. And your time and patience with and willingness to do for your children is always a blessing to them.

More than ever before, you've learned lessons about memories and what's important over the last few months. Maybe a hearfelt letter to each of your children imparting those thoughts and feelings would be something they would treasure from you forever.

We love our Christmas rituals, so no changes here. I try my best to make it as special as possible for my parents, children, siblings, and us. It warms my heart to know how much everyone looks forward to coming to our house on Christmas Eve, so all that baking and decorating is well worth it. Also, getting together on Christmas Day for dinner is always a great time. Rob and I love to get out in the crowds and do our shopping, I've always loved to wrap gifts and to send and receive cards (I ordered mine last week) and we look forward to going out at night and selecting the tree together and decorating it to the tunes of The Nutcracker and other Christmas favorites while we drink eggnog. I believe these are things my children will pass on to their own families.

As a child, my memories of Christmas were always so special to me, so I guess that's why I made it one of my missions to pass those feelings on. Those memories will be one of my parents' legacies to me. It doesn't hurt that I do enjoy shopping, baking, and decorating. It's important that the true meaning of Christmas isn't lost in all the frivolity, so we read about Christ's birth and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus.

I think what's important is that each family celebrates Christmas and other holidays in a way that is appropriate and meaningful to them. It's interesting to me to hear about other people's traditions. If simplifying makes it more enjoyable for you, then I think you should. You need to be able to enjoy it too!

Hugs,

Rhonda

Don't even get me started. I don't want to think about Christmas for at least another month. I really don't like Christmas all that much. Too much fighting and not enough sharing if you ask me.

I think I'll hide this year.

I love my Christmas rituals, too, Rhonda! I especially love to go to Christmas eve midnight service. I enjoy watching the Nutcracker Suite, the Charles Dickens kind of Christmas play our church does every year (they make up their own script, but the actors wear costumes from that period), the children's cantatas & plays of the birth of the Saviour, the First Baptist's chorale's and orchestra's rendition of Handel's Messiah, and other plays and concerts. This year, I plan to go to the symphony near New Year's Eve, too. To me, the best part of Christmas is the holiness of this time of year.

Wish I had more time and money for decorating, but I always try to add a little every year. I love to cook the goodies and even LOVE to shop during that time of year. I am fortunate to only have a little shopping to do so I take my time and enjoy the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes. Our mall has this wonderful kiosk with cinnamony pecans. Oh, they're delish!

Now you all have made me want to get out the Christmas music already!

Rhonda,

Okay you have jilted me back to my own reality. Christmas is always very special at our house. Much like the one you mentioned minus the parents and siblings as we live far from them. My kids and their families always look forward to our Christmas rituals and I almost forgot we will have Brock entertaining all of us this year.

I may not have to think very hard about what my DS or DIL want this year as he just called and said he got laid off today.

I'm thinking I need to get out and do more at Christmas!I love the holidays. I love the hustle and bustle and I love finding my quiet time too. I almost got out my Christmas music the other day.I do alot of shopping online which helps. Then when I go in the stores I usually don't have much to get. Also alot of years I wish I had done more baking for people so I may do more of that this year.

All your Christmas activities sound wonderful too! I'd really like to go to the Nutcracher again this year after a couple of years off. That was THE highlight for my daughter and me when she was little -- Girls' night out, fancy clothes, restaurant, and all. Now, after writing about mine and reading yours, I'm ready to dig out the Christmas music too. Guess I'd better put my Halloween stuff up first!

Oh, no, I'm so sorry to hear about your SIL getting laid off!! Hopefully, something else will turn up quickly. What type of work does he do?

Having Brock will make everything so magical during the holidays. I'm sure your family appreciates all you do to make Christmas special for them..

Hugs,

Rhonda
