So do you have a time of day where

you just don't have enough energy left in you to do one more thing? This whole week has been like this. It starts about 4PM at work and that last hour seems like it's going to last forever! Today was really bad because no one was at home to do any cleaning up in the kitchen and there it stood-containers of leftovers waiting to be thrown out, a clean dishwasher waiting to be reloaded and dinner to attend to. Eating out is never an option for us and I always keep dinner simple but wowzers it took every last bit of energy to throw a couple of pieces of fish into the oven. Sometimes I'll feel better after I eat or after taking Otto out but not tonight. I don't know whether it's because it seems like summer is back upon us, can't really blame not enough sleep since I've been going to bed an hour earlier and sometimes I just wonder whether it's the drugs I'm on. Supposedly by the last blood test it shows signs of dehydration I guess because of the waterpill in the BP medication. I've really been conscious of drinking lots of water and I think if I add anymore they'll have to move a desk and phone for me into the ladies room at work. Maybe today was just an almost end of the week out of energy syndrome thing.

So do any of you suffer from this daily energy lag? Aside from laying my head down on top of my desk and napping (although that thought has occurred to me and the leather recliner in one the bosses office certainly does look inviting some days) do you have something that works for you or any ideas, suggestions, thoughts?

I get the late afternoon slump sometimes.I would think your medications are affecting you alot. And from what you said about your blood work I'm sure some of the low levels you had of somethings really affects you.Did you say your potassium level was low?Only one time has a migraine sent me to the emergency room.I got so sick and by the time I got to ER I could hardly stand up.They ran some tests and found my potassium level was way too low and I was anemic.I really hope you get everything leveled out soon. That and the worry over your family members has to be hard on you.I really think that island trip would help!!!!

Definitely! Mid-morning is one time, and the really tough one is around 3 in the afternoon. Sometimes I just have to go to bed. Part of the problem is I don't get enough sleep.

I'm sorry about your lack of energy, Susan. It's frustrating when it hits as late in the afternoon as it does to you and you still have to at least look functional at work.

I'm curious about the BP med you're on. The first one my doctor put me on was atenolol (generic name: tenormin). It made me feel so lethargic and wiped out my arms felt like lead and moving my legs took great effort. All I wanted to do was sleep. Do you take it at night before bed? Although I did do that with the atenolol and it didn't seem to matter - I was getting extra sleep, but practically sleep-walking the next day anyway.

Would a snack help you if you eat it around 3/3:30? Some dry-roasted peanuts, pistachios, celery with peanut butter or celery or cucumber slices with hummus are handy and healthy.

Not to add another thing to you list of health concerns, but has your doctor done any tests for anemia? Even a borderline read can be making you feel groggy and tired.

I really hope you feel better soon, Susan!

I do have a snack in the afternoon (I really like some of your snack ideas-I like the cucumber and hummus idea.) I do the same thing mid morning. I think my next visit to the doctor I need to go armed with a load of questions because it just feels like there's something not quite right. I'm on Hyzaar at the moment and I take it first thing in the morning and then the potassium pill after breakfast. Seems like I'm adding on one thing while depleting something else. I just never figured it would take this long to stabalize and I'm not even really to the point of being stabalized. I'm curious about the anemia thing too. I had had borderline anemia once before so I am going to ask about that.

Susan feel better. I get that slump too in the afternoon but mine is sleep. I am guessing at that. Although I do not have the high energy level I want and have spoken to several doctors about it. They just chock it up to age, kids, and life style. I need to push myself into getting some workout time in. Plus I was told to pick up a low dose iron pill and I never did. Maybe a trip to the vitamin store is order.

LoL...yes I get that slump too. About 3pm it hits me. It's interesting that we both get that slump an hour before we get to leave.

I don't have any answers for you except that I save the simple, no-brainer stuff for that last hour. As for supper, well, we don't make a lot of fuss about it. If I don't feel like cooking, I don't. We fend for ourselves.

Not much help am I?

I suffer from that, too, Susan! I wish I had some great suggestions as I know eating out for us is not an option everyday, either. I'm almost to the point of buying paperplates and serving finger foods during the weekdays. You work hard at your job and it is so unfair for you to be the only one to do the meals and cleanup! I really wish I was super organized with the meal preparing in advance so I could just throw it in the microwave & then load up the dishwasher at night & be done with it! I think we need to make our families eat finger foods and make ahead casseroles!

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. When do you see your doctor next?

Hugs,

Kat
