Hi Everyone,

First time to the board today and I've been catching up on some posts. Saturdays are a challenge for me because I always called Mom on Saturday mornings and chatted for about an hour. This morning I decided I didn't want to sit and wallow so I threw on some "cleaning clothes" and I started pulling everything that wasn't nailed down out of the kitchen and laundry room. I sorted organized, cleaned everything I pulled out (well, except for a few of DH's things I came across in the laundry room. Being a pack rat he's been a bit restless with my recent purging). I took EVERYTHING out of my pantry. Washed the shelves and organized everything before I put it back. I cleaned the inside of the fridge and other appliances and gave the floor a real scrubbing. I almost hate to cook dinner and get anything dirty! I'm off to the shower because although the kitchen is clean I am not! Hope you are having a good day!

(((( Margie )))I can imagine how hard it must be for you missing your talks with your Mom.

Cleaning does help, doesn't it? I do what you did about once a year :o)..right before Thanksgiving, right about this time. I organize all the pans and pantry and spices. This is when I get my new spices for the holidays, make sure I have the staples for the holidays---and de-clutter my pans.

NOW I AM CURIOUS...who keeps a neat organized and tidy pan area? I just put them where they go real quick. Sometimes they all collapse and the cat almost jumps up a few feet in the air if he's in the kitchen and the pans fall out.

I think cleaning and purging is very therapeutic.

Hey Margie-girl. Glad you took some "therapy". I was a kitchen cleaner today too. My daughter came in and said, "wow mom, you clean up good". Then she laughed and said, "you know I mean the kitchen". Hm. That just made it worse to me!

Deb...I straighted out my pan cabinet today. The following describes my regular pan cabinet cleaning...I reach in to find something and can't get it out. Or I try to put something back in and it won't fit. Now, I do have to say that I always put them in order when I put them away, but I have 3 children, 4 if you count DH who hasn't a CLUE about where/how anything goes in the kitchen after almost 10 years of living here. So I tried to put some things away today and got frustrated and yanked everything out, tossing them onto the kitchen floor with muffled oaths at 3 children and a husband, and neatly put everything back in its place.

I'm working on the rest of the house....

Sassy

I always finding the thorough cleaning of one room very theraputic too. My kitchen actually could use some of that down and dirty cleaning. My pans are organized because they have to be. The kitchen is teeny tiny and a pain in the butt to work in so I have to try to keep things organized and straightened up in there-which doesn't always work too well! Enjoy that clean kitchen!

Deb, no organized pans here.LOL Just open the cabinet and catch them as they come out.

Hi, Margie - Nothing is as good for the soul as cleaning therapy; I'm sure your mom was there with you as you went along. My MIL feels blue around this time of year since her mother passed away about 8 years ago so she keeps herself very busy from October through November. Although I don't think she's ever been as busy as she is this fall - she and FIL are moving into their new apartment from the old house in a couple of weeks, and she's trying to organize what to keep and what to toss/sell. They've been in the house over 45 years - she's made great headway, but a lot of work remains.

Deb - Pots and pans are fairly well organized. DH doesn't even try to put them away after he clears out the dish rack; just stacks them for me. Sometimes I feel like we have too many, but around the holidays, it becomes apparent that we have exactly what we need. However, DH has developed one small habit that is bugging me; when he comes home from work, he strews the only expanse of workable kitchen coutertop with his stuff - briefcase, change, architectural scales, ID badge, cellphone, organizer, you name it, every day. Polite requests to cut it out haven't helped. How many times do I have to move it to the office before he gets it? Maybe if he finds it in the backyard. Or maybe I'll just start using his briefcase as a veggie chopping block....
