Rhonda, I checked out "The Red Hat Club"

at the library to read (it's by Haywood Smith). It looks like one of those juicy Southern women's books. Every dept. store I go to these days, I see red hats! Love it! This lady came by Dillard's Sat. night to buy a purple hat because they were doing something different in their Red Hat Society & she needed a purple hat. I told her I wanted to join as a pinky and she looked at me funny and said that I couldn't join until I was 50. I guess she either doesn't know about pinkies or maybe each club has their own rules, etc. Haven't seen any pink hats in Longview, come to think of it.

That's cool! You are correct about pinkies. Check out the site below, which is the main one for all chapters (as opposed to a specific chapter) and look under "Are there any rules?"

I think you're not seeing pink hats because of the time of year. I found 4 stores on St. George Street in St. Augustine yesterday that had red and pink hat stuff. I got their cards to pass the info. on to friends. They're opening their 5th chapter down there this week, and we already have 32 here in Jax. It's definitely a growing market for merchandise and retailers are realizing that.
The costume party should be a real hoot! So glad it's actually on Halloween, so people don't think we're totally nuts! People seem to be decorating more around here this year, I'm happy to see, and I think more people will be dressing up.
Hugs,
