presentation by People to People tonight, & it was worse than I thought. Not that it's not a trip of a lifetime and a fabulous opportunity, but I figure without spending money it would be $5,175.00! Considering it's transatlantic airfare, train fare from London to Paris under the English Channel, ferry fare from Italy to Greece, hotels, 66 meals, tax, tips,

Suddenly I have board upgrade options again...good grief!

Anyway, they are really cool and we've considered it sometime in the next 4 years for oldest DS, but man...the $$$ is just a lot to spend.

I believe there's one that goes to France, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, which would be right up your alley. It's great that he's already fluent in German. What a huge help that would be. There's also one that goes to Australia that Rob would LOVE to go to, but I'm not sure when that's happening again. I told him to just wait for that one, and he said no, he didn't know if he'd get recommended again. If we decide to pursue it, he will have to have 3 letters of recommendation from 2 recent teachers and one other adult, then there's the one-on-one interview. He's not thrilled about that idea, but he needs to learn to speak to adults for himself.

There are a number of orientation sessions, and I believe they try to teach some basic French for this one because that's the country where they'll stay with families. I had 3 years of French in high school, but that was forever ago. I do have a book of French words and expressions that have become frequently used in our language.
