Last night was choir practice for both Allison and I. The kids have their choir between 6:30 and 7:30, while the adults have various electives. A new elective session started last week, and I chose to sit in on "The Islamic Challenge". Highly interesting. Last night, however, I felt like I wanted to have some quiet time in the church library instead of attending the class, so I grabbed my Bible and the outline of the treasure hunt idea I'm working on for Allison's birthday. At the church, I got Allison into her choir and settled into the library. There was an 8-yo girl in there, a member of our church, who'd lost track of her mom and so at the pastor's suggestion, she was waiting until mom came by again. She'd thought they were going to be going straight home after having Wednesday night dinner at the church. I decided to grab a cup of decaf coffee. On the way back to the library, the little girl was sitting just outside the pastor's office. Without prompting, she told me she was a bit scared not knowing where mom was, especially with her dad currently on his way to the west coast on business. I offered to sit with her and read Bible stories together, knowing that having something to do wouldn't make her dwell on her waiting - Mom was probably around the church somewhere, as the pastor couldn't locate her by phone. The little girl and I ended up laughing together, verbally acting out parts of the Bible. At the end of classes and the various kids' choirs, mom reappears - she'd been helping out in her older son's class as she always does Wednesday! Her daughter had just misunderstood. At that point it was time for my choir, so I grabbed my stuff and headed on.
When I got home later that night, I plopped my Bible and other things on the kitchen island, and joined The Cus in the living room. There on the coffee table was my devotional... on top of my Bible? Huh? If my Bible was there, what the heck did I take to church?! I checked the book on the kitchen island - same color and about the same size and thickness of my Bible, I'd taken the dictionary! LOL! Wonder how the Spirit would've used that!
But isn't it funny, in a different way, that the night I don't feel like attending class and take the wrong thing to study, a little girl needed an adult friend? Even though I wanted to spend time with the Bible and reading His Word is how to walk more closely with Him, He had other plans. Interesting.
