according to AOL. The first one is obvious - but hey, I NEED to get a 45 min. walk in EVERY DAY. Now that is something I can do easily. Now I didn't know about the yogurt or apple things. Interesting.

1. To lose weight you need to downsize by 500 calories per day, but you don't have to slash them all from your plate. If you eat 250 cal. less and burn another 250 cal. by walking 30-45 min. a day, you'll lose about a pound a week.
2. Eat dairy daily. A piece of cheese or a cup of milk or yogurt can rev up your metabolism, a recent University of Tenn. study found. People who cut 500 calories a day from their diets while eating yogurt 3 times a day lost 13 pounds over 12 weeks, more weight and more body fat than a control group who cut only calories.
3. Have an apple before dinner. How did 346 people in small-town Washington state lose an astounding 6,000 pounds - an average of 17 each - in 3 months? With regular exercise, balanced eating, and yes, an apple with every meal. The residents owed their rapid weight loss in part to the fruit's ample fiber, most of which is in the skin, (a typical apple contains 5 grams). The roughage makes you feel fuller, blunting a raging appetite.
4. Stick your fork into your salad dressing before you stick the fork into the salad greens (less dressing this way & it could save you 500 cal.)
5. Sleep well, lose more. According to a recent study in The Lancet, sleep loss may hinder your efforts to lose extra pounds. Insufficient shut-eye appears to increase
production of the stress hormone cortisol, which regulates appetite. High levels seem to worsen bingeing and hunger; moreover, too little sleep could keep your body from burning carbohydrates, which translates into more stored body fat.
6. Brush your teeth after every meal. Brushing serves as a physical and psychological cue to stop eating. If you're on the go, Altoids or a breath strip can have the same effect.
Gee Willikers, I'd hate to know my salad dressing could add 500 calories to my daily count! I don't think I buy that kind, but I'm sure the restaurants serve it up. I don't think I can eat an apple at every meal, but the dairy thing is something I would be interested in doing.
AOL had another link that was interesting about making sure you have enough fat & calories in your diet if you work out in order to avoid fatigue related stress fractures and injuries. If you have warning signs of lightheadedness and/or lethargy, and you have cranked up the activity but cut back on your diet, you may have to put back some of those calories into your diet. If I can find the study, I will post it, but the study was conducted by University of Buffalo researchers. Nancy Clark, R.D., author of bestselling "Nancy Clark's Sports Nutrition Guidebook", suggests including a little healthful fat (such as that in nuts, peanut butter, salmon, and olive oil) in every meal to make sure your muscles have the right balance of fuels.
Woohoo, I can eat peanut butter! LOL! That is good to know, though. I try to cook with olive oil & love nuts, peanut butter & salmon. Definitely wanting to start adding some almonds to the salads.

The apple and yogurt ideas sound good to me too. I wonder how long it will be before I'm sick of apples and yogurt three times a day....hmmm....
