We've been together 11 years now, and have been saying each and every one of those years---we need to buy new every day china (seriously).

Oh Pooey! I just wrote long post telling you my china story and I even attached photos and when I was done viewing the photo I attached I hit the X and my whole post disappeared!
Here is the short version. I realized reading your post I must have four different sets of mismatched dishes filling one of the largest cabinets in my kitchen.

I have china handed down to me from my Great Aunt Helen, who lived to be in her 90's and who died about 8 years ago. It was her wedding china, imported from England. The pieces are gorgeous & the colors are still brilliant. I should take a picture of my china.
However, for everyday we use a white (fruit pattern) - nothing expensive. I love fruit patterns. I look at the stuff that Dillard's has out and I'm thinking no, I don't want roosters - I'll stick with fruit! I would like something a little fancier someday - something in between everyday and china, though.
My china is similar - it has gold around the rim & lots of different colors - I'm not sure of the pattern, but there are birds so they may be cranes, too. There are flowers in the pattern, also. I'm thinking it's Wedgwood, too, though I'll have to check. I do know it was made in England. I need to take a picture of it! I love it because it has all the goodies like the soup tureen, soup bowls, dessert plates, platters & serving bowls etc. and I think it serves 12. Even though mine was handed down, I felt like it was meant for me. I don't think I'll be able to part with it. I don't know . . . maybe if Danny marries a very nice girl. She'd have to be extremely nice to make me want to hand my china down. LOL!
Deb very elegent dinnerware.........lol. You sure its for everyday? Its very pretty. Now Margie I love you good china. Very beautiful.
