Good Eating and Exercise Paying Off.....

I think I mentioned a weight-loss plateau a little while ago. I was ready to settle into in and do a little tweaking here and there. Imagine my pleasure when I got on the scale this morning (I can't wait until Sunday, my official weigh-in day, so I do an interim check every week) and found another pound gone. That's 12 total in about 8 weeks! I'm thrilled. Five more to go before I start buying some new basic clothes - unless the stuff I have now starts falling off me before then; some are close to doing that already -I may not be taking off my tops, but my pants could be posing a problem soon........

Yippee!!

I'm being a Halloween Scrooge this year - I have NO candy in the house (except for a few really decrepit yogurt covered raisins), won't buy any, and still don't plan to be home. I might run up to my sister's house right after work and focus my Halloween attention on her kids, where it should be, and wait for my hubby to arrive when traffic lets him. Or he and I will just go out to dinner and linger. I won't be able to get to my house in time anyway to see the littlest ones in our neighborhood, and like someone else posted a while back, I'm sick of answering the door at 8:30 to find 16-yr-olds looking for handouts without even an attempt at a costume.

Bah, humHalloween bug...

Unless we park our car in a neighbor's driveway, it would be obvious that we're home and ignoring the doorbell - no room in the garage for the car right now. Even the light on the front stairs being turned off doesn't give a strong enough hint that the party is over. Plus all our living space is on the first floor and you can see a glint of light from all angles; I suppose we could hide out in the attic, but why be a hostage in my own house?

What's the weather like here? A little of this, a little of that - warm, cold, brilliant sun, driving rain, snow showers. Driving rain today, and windy as can be. It's not been truly sunny enough to see the beauty of the fall color. I'm going to join your BIL and keep this weekend's weather forecast a secret from you - I don't want you to feel bad anymore, either.

I love this eating plan. I love that I'm not craving the things that used to taste wonderful but I find myself pushing away after just a spoonful or forkful. I love that I don't want to eat pasta 3 times a week (and that's saying a whole lot), and I love that I'm finally - and consistently - making the better choice when faced with a tough food dilemma. Not that one slipup means certain death, but just that I've found enough self-discipline to follow through and not undo the good work. And I love that I'm not hungry -ever. I never thought that was possible.

Has your DSIL heard more about his job situation and is the plan to move still progressing?

We live in an area that gets a LOT of trick or treaters. I do enjoy giving out the candy and seeing the kids (and sometimes parents) in their costumes. We decorate a lot and encourage the kids to come to our house. Sometimes it's annoying to see the older kids come begging, but if it's some of Rob's friends who are now 14 or 15, I don't mind. We have a good relationship and joke back-and-forth, so I usually give them a hard time with their treat. I guess I'm just a kid at heart.

That's the thing - your son's friends are known to you. We have exactly 2 teenagers in the neighborhood (one is 19, and his younger brother is 17), and they're not the ones trick or treating. The others are strangers to the neighborhood, and I can't help but feel like they're taking a little bit of advantage of the situation.

I would feel the same. We have some people who haul in kids from other areas, because we are a development with street lights and lots of activity, so they feel safe and know that many people give out candy. It does make me feel taken advantage of, plus decent candy isn't cheap. I can't give out stuff that I wouldn't want Rob to get.

You know what I bought this year? Prepackaged Teddy Grams and Gold Fish. Bill said yesterday, What no candy? This coming from the man who eats none. I told him if its in the house I am a goner, yet these snacks are for the little ones. I might pick up a bag or two of twizlers, those are a safe bet too. I agree with you about the older kids, by 9 pm we are done. I will turn my front light off. That is a sign that we are done. Actually Katie loves doing the door duty when she is home. And once the stuff is gone its gone.
