I almost made it yesterday.............m

I almost made it through the kitchen on my way to bed without eating. But, as I cleaned the kitchen of the mess DH and DD made after dinner, I had to have something to crunch on. So...I opted for almonds since it is protein and good for you. I then had a piece of low fat cheese and a slice of turkey. I just couldn't seem to help myself. The only good thing is that all the food wos allowed on the SBD and I stayed away from sugar.

At least I lost 1 lb of water that I gained over the weekend. Hoping for a better day today.

I think it was stress that got me going last night. We got notice that we have to pick a new health insurance plan...the one we have will be no longer available. The ones we have to choose from

Hoo boy - our healthcare plan changes in some way every year. We went from the traditional plan several years ago to an HMO for a few years, to a PPO, and now we have a choice between PPO and the latest breed, a consumer driven health plan (CDHP). If we stayed with the PPO, our premiums would go up too. We're going with a lower premium CDHP, which in the event of the worst-case scenario would cost us more out-pocket, but the net we'd gain on paying a higher premium for the other plans would be $1500 or even less, and we do have enough in our contingencies and savings to cover that. It's always a roll of the dice, and the only thing certain is that it'll change again NEXT year.

Check these two sites to see if you can do better on your own with a plan your doctor accepts: NetQuote specializing in health insurance quotes for all 50 states, and Insure.com (formerly Quotesmith) for all kinds of insurance needs.

At least you didn't go overboard with the snacking and kept to something healthy.

Grace - Confession is good for the soul, but I bet if you were exercising like you had been before your foot troubles really started up, you wouldn't even be thinking about that little treat. You chose a smart snack, so relax a little.

Hope your day is going well....

I forgot the HMO part of your post. Our health plan, which is my company's plan, gives a wide range of choices, but costs to employees are increasing across the board. Our primary care physician's practice accepts all of the programs, thank goodness, and my ob/gyn (for more than 20 years) does as well. I'd hate to be forced to change either one also, Grace.

Our vision care program is being separated from the medical coverage, so we'd be hit with the increase in medical plus the now-separate payment for vision care. DH is blessed with good eyesight and no signs of problems, my eyeglass prescription is current and there are no signs of problems, so we'll wait and see how a year without vision care goes, then reconsider next year. I think the cost of two eye exams for a single year won't break us.

I hope you find a suitable solution - and a new doctor who's not a pill pusher; that makes me crazy, too.

Grace, I don't blame you for being upset about your health insurance.

"by 2014, the premiums would be more than our salaries."

That's a scary concept. But no scarier than what you and your DH face - I guess that I shouldn't complain about my job next time it bugs me, and that I should think of you two instead; there are some tangible benefits to working here that I never think about when I'm in mid-whine.

THANKS EVERYONE for your kind words and encouragement. The health insurance thing is a real mess and there doesn't seem to be any relief in sight.

I am going to make all the appointments I have to before the end of the year. This way I won't have too much expense for 2004.

Again, thanks for listening and making me feel better.

grace that is not really a bad snack. About the health insurance, real sore subject around here. We are self employed and we have to have it. Especially with a child like Katie and her heart condition. We could never take a chance. Actually Billy goes off our policy after this month since he is now 19 and not a full time student. Does our premium go down.........nope! We are paying about $980.00 a month now, with Vyrta. All our doctors are on the plan but we have not eye glass coverage or dental. As of January the plan goes up to $1,100.00 a month, crazy huh!
