When does your everyday routine

become a rut. I'm a very routine based person but I think that routine has turned into a rut. Same old same old everyday. Maybe I need to take my vacation days that are left (which I'm viewing as mental health days) or maybe it's the readying for winter. I don't know just feeling a little unsettled and restless today...and I'm headed back to work. I need some spicing up but not sure what to do. Ever feel that way?

Well looking at the time it's time to water up the dog for the afternoon, give him his afternoon treat and head back to work.

Hope you're having a good day.

My routine becomes a rut when I can't get out and see people much.Sometimes I envy those who get to put on real grownup clothes and be with real people.I spend my days with chickens and while I usually enjoy my job some days I wish I had a different one.If the weather gets bad for a long stretch(this week it only took one rainy day!!)I get really bunmmed.I try to get out with friends or my sisters for lunch.I think knowing winter is coming on effects me too. After the holidays there is a long stretch of dull days with gloomy weather.I think my routine needs some shaking up too.I was a stay at home mom/chicken farmer for 11 yrs straight, worked off farm part time for about 4-5 yrs and now have been back for 5 yrs.Because I am home the housework and stuff falls on me and frankly some days it both bores and overwhelms me.I can't imagine having to work all week out of the house and then have that to tackle at night or on weekends.I think I'm at a point in life where I want something that is just about me.Ok, I've rambled enough.Let me know if you come up with something to spice things up.

When you work full time and your spare time is limited, it is hard not to have a routine. But, it isn't necessarily a bad thing. Since I have stopped working full time, as well as part time, I find it a little unsettling to not have a schedule...even a loose one.

Some things just wouldn't get done if they weren't scheduled in. I have to exercise early (before breakfast), or it doesn't get done. If I don't do what I have to do around the house before going out, that doesn't seem to get done either.

It sounds like with all you have been through with family and health, a vacation is definitely in order. Then you will feel refreshed and ready to get back to things. I think you should take your days and don't lose them or take money instead. Like you said, it could be winter, the end of the year, the holidays, or etc that is making you feel that way too.

Take those mental health days for you! I bet you will be glad you did.

Susan what both you and Patti said are true and I am afraid we all get into these "ruts" from time to time. I guess it is up to us to change these "ruts". As Grace said having a schedual is good, and for some necessary but it can get old. I find because I am the "woman" I get the domestic chores. I just don't thinks its because I have been home for so many years, althought it does play a huge roll in it, but its also the way we (both Bill and I) were brought up. Not saying its right or wrong, for I know lots of men who are better at cooking, laundry, and grocery shopping, but how many ways can you vacume your house. It does get old, and blah. I love my new/old house, I take pride in how it looks but there are days lately where I could care less if that dinning room table ever gets cleaned off. Why who knows. I think taking time away helps. But know you are not alone in how you feel. Untill we can come up with another plan we do what we do because.............

Oh Susan, I could have written that post myself. I've been so restless and cranky lately and feeling boxed in my routine that's not really a routine. Carefully controlled chaos is what I have.

I envy you for your mental health days. Take a couple and see how you feel. Good luck getting out of your rut. Maybe you should hire one of Patty's cabana boys to help clean the house.

I'm just hoping this mood I'm in doesn't result in a tatoo or belly button ring. Then again.....

Something for show-and-tell in Asheville, perhaps?

Susan.

I, too, get stuck in a rut. I'm always asking Phyllis to shake up my workout because I get bored with it. Variety is the spice of life, I guess. Take those mental health days, for sure! Do something different. Do something spontaneous. I don't think a tattoo or navel ring would be such a bad thing, if it was something you wanted to do.

I say shake it up a bit, whatever it is.
