I am trying to stay calm. I knew before I went for the blood work that my cholesterol would be high because I haven't done any cardio for almost 3 months and I did not have to fast before. The only reason I went to have them done at this time was that it was paid in full with this health insurance plan.

The number was so high, I can barely type it. The last time I had cholesterol checked, it was 239 with HDL being 75. It was

I wonder if it could be hereditary?

I thought if you didn't fast before the results could be way off?

No meds were suggested yet. One reason I really like this doc. I was told to watch my diet first. I am going Dec 1st for my presurgical clearance and I will talk to him then. It is in the family, but I did have it under control until this whole surgery thing. The test will be repeated first anyway..probably a fasting one this time. I know that makes a difference. The thing is, my triglycerides went down and that proves I have to be doing something right.

I am calming down. I was so crazed, I accidently signed in with my cl hat on. I am going to be extra vigilant with my eating. More salmon, nuts, soy, fruits, veggies, whole grains. I might go buy the fish oil supplement too.

Thanks for responding so quickly.

I thought that was true too. I am sure it is going to be redone with a fasting test. Just have to squeeze it in before Dec 5th. I am going to be so good and change those numbers. I have almost 4 weeks to do something about it. I will do some aerobic exercise even if my foot hurts!

Big hugs , Grace.I know those numbers must be upsetting especially after reading all the things you are doing to make a difference.Hopefully it's acombination of things;not fasting, less exercise, surgery, etc, and the numbers will be much better next time.Take care.

Thank you for the link on cholesterol, Margie.

The reason I said no meds is that with every medicine there is a poison. Something with so many side effects worries me. DH was on statins

Grace,

I certainly understand your concern about the side effects of medications.

Grace - I can see why you'd be concerned about those numbers with how carefully you eat and how you'd been exercising up to the surgery. I know how you feel about meds, because I'm right there with you, but would you consider doing the statins for a short term, like until your surgeries are over and done with and you're back into the groove of working out and teaching classes as you used to?

Just a thought. Hang in there - it gets better.
