I am trying to stay calm. I knew before I went for the blood work that my cholesterol would be high because I haven't done any cardio for almost 3 months and I did not have to fast before. The only reason I went to have them done at this time was that it was paid in full with this health insurance plan.
The number was so high, I can barely type it. The last time I had cholesterol checked, it was 239 with HDL being 75. It was

Margie, thanks for the info on the oatmeal. I was eating the Quaker Old fashioned oats because I heard the quick cooking and the instant aren't that good for you at all. I am going to go to Trader Joe's today and buy the Irish oatmeal and eat it often. I will also bring some with me when I go to Fl. Boy, am I determined!
I heard also that with women, if your total cholesterol is in the low 200's, it is still good with the HDLs being high. It is the ratio that is important. You are actually healthier than some one who has a cholesterol count under 200 and the HDLs are low.
Do you ever make extra oatmeal and reheat

Grace,
Yes, the Quaker old fashioned oats are better than the quick oats but the Irish Oats are a whole lot better.

Hey, all! I bought the Irish Oatmeal...the long cooking one in the can...and made it up yesterday for lunch. I made 2 servings and cooked it in 1/2 water and 1/2 ff milk. I put some stevia in it and added some ground flax seed. It was so yummy!
Another question....do you put a cover on the pot when simmering? I noticed quite a bit of the liquid evaporated while cooking. Could have had the heat up too high..I was posting while it was cooking.
Thanks for all the ideas. PB is ok to eat for weight loss and for cholesterol. It is part of the good fats. I am going to definitely pack some of the dry oatmeal for my trip and eat it when others are eating desserts, etc.
