Hooked on Brownie Bites?

Ok, so I'm surfing the net and I run across some web sites touting their particular brand of this or that to improve your immune system. Since I've had so many colds this year, I decided to look into the situation and see what I could do from a nutritional/activity standpoint. I don't want herbs or drugs, but I did want to see what I could do.

So anyway, I found this website called www.ImmuneCentral.com and there is this article about Four Habits that Weaken the Immune System. I wasn't surprised to learn that excess alcohol, food allergens or too much fat in your body could cause immune problems. What I really found interesting is that overdosing on sugar is a huge culprit.

"Eating or drinking 100 grams (8 tbsp.) of sugar, the equivalent of one 12-ounce can of soda, can reduce the ability of white blood cells to kill germs by forty percent. the immune-suppressing effect of sugar starts less than thirty minutes after ingestion and may last for five hours. In contrast, the ingestion of complex carbohydrates, or starches, has no effect on the immune system."

I nearly dropped my brownie bites into my hot chocolate when I read that! 8 tbsp. of sugar seems like a lot in one can of soda, but who am I to decide?

Thoughts, comments, or nonsense?

I've read this before and I believe it.I think too much sugar takes your blood sugar levels up and down so much. That puts a big stress on the body and makes it harder to fight off other stresses like viruses and germs.Just my thoughts.

I have a friend who gave up sugar. She used to get fever sores/canker sores on her mouth and they read about sugar somehow causing some of these viruses. She felt the reoccuring sores might have been viral. Anyhow she gave up lots of stuff with sugar, stopped using it in her tea (uses honey now) and she hardly gets them anymore. Who knows?
